Marta Bado was more than the "Ice Cream Lady." Marta was a fixture at our children's birthday parties, she attended our block parties, she greeted everyone with a smile and she brought cold refreshment and warm fuzzies everywhere she went. Sadly she passed suddenly on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Marta will forever be a part of our children's childhood memories and the song that heralded her arrival on our streets will echo in our minds for many years to come.
At this difficult time, we as a community, have the opportunity to come together to help her beloved family and to give back a little bit of what we got from Marta over the years. Born and raised in Uruguay, Marta is survived by her husband of 40 years, Cesar, her children Federico and Yenny, and her grandchildren Kayla, Michael and Anna.
Working with the families of Scotch Plains and Fanwood brought her happiness. She enjoyed being a part of our celebrations, being with our children and becoming friendly with so many of us. We hope to meet (and even exceed) our goal of $5000 to benefit Marta's family. Every donation will matter, regardless of the amount.
