Hello everyone,

Marlando is a victim of Medical Malpractice and is in need of a prosthetic eye.

When Marlando was only 6weeks old his mother, Tiffany, took him for his 6weeks clinic appointment. Upon arrival Marlando had been referred to a children’s hospital.

The doctors at the children’s hospital misdiagnosed Marlando with Glaucoma which is an eye disease which leads to damage in the optic nerve resulting in vision loss. Upon this devastating news they were told to visit an eye clinic the following morning; ...following an ultrasound and an X-ray Marlando was then misdiagnosed once again with retinoblastoma which is cancer in the eye. The doctors gave Marlando’s mother an ultimatum to remove Marlando’s affected eye to prevent the cancer spreading and causing blindness in both eyes.

Tiffany had eventually found the courage to sign the documents to proceed with the surgery in attempt to save her baby simply because of the devastating news she had received from the doctors.

On March 8th 2013, 3month old baby Marlando was taken into surgery to prevent the spreading of the eye cancer.

It wasn’t too long after the surgery when Tiffany went for a check up on Marlando at the eye clinic that they had told her that her baby is a victim of medical malpractice and baby Marlando never had cancer in either of his eyes and was fully healthy.

Marlando is now 6years of age and has had the same prosthetic ever since even though they are meant to be changed every 3-5 years. Marlando more than often loses “his eye” because he was only given a stock prosthetic which had no personalised shape and size to fit his eye socket. His eyes do not move in sync and because of this he avoids eye contact when having conversations. Marlando believes medical negligence has hindered his life drastically and he feels his ability to play football is limited unlike other kids.

Eye Prosthetics cost on average $5,000 and with Tiffany looking after Marlando most of the time, her earnings cannot cover this alongside her other living costs and sending Marlando to a particular school (he was discriminated by the majority of the schools nearby due to his disability at such a young age).

Tiffany cannot afford to file a medical malpractice case against the optical clinic and hospital and therefore cannot claim any compensation to improve Marlando’s quality of life.

From what you have read above, I hope you agree that it is not just a physical appearance matter but rather a societal expectation that hinders normal conversations, interactions, transactions least of all simple respect. Without a normally functioning prosthetic, Marlando’s daily life is impacted greatly.

I am looking to raise funds for his new prosthetic before July as well as the replacement he will need in the next 3+ years.

Please consider donating to Marlando’s new eye fund. And if you cannot, please share this story with your friends and family. Thank you for taking the time to read, consider and helping out in anyway possible.

*All the money in this Gofundme will go to the family of Marlando for prosthetic and medical expenses.*
