Help home birth midwives become licensed in Maine
The Maine Association of Certified Professional Midwives needs your support!
We are reaching the end of the process to create and implement a licensing bill (LD690) for Maine Midwives, and we need your help to complete this important work.
Licensing of Certified Professional Midwives offers many benefits to families choosing to birth at home and to the midwives who provide their care.
Licensing means being better integration into the health care system, improving collaboration between professions, and offering more comprehensive care for parents and babies.
Licensing means easier access to the tools that can improve care; such as lab rights, ultrasound, and more essential medications that contribute to safety in childbirth.
Licensing means more midwives for more people. Creating a professional environment in Maine where maternity care providers work in respectful collaboration means more midwives wanting to practice in the state, which means more providers for families to choose from.
Licensing means a strong midwifery profession for the future in Maine.
We have worked hard to get to the point of completing a bill we can all support. Not only in the past year of writing LD690, but in the decades prior invisioning the future we want for midwives and the families we serve, and holding to that vision.
The fundraising goal of $15,000 is an honest representation of the funds we need to raise by May 1st of 2016. These funds are essential to pay our lobbiests, who have worked with us for the past year and will continue to work until our bill is law. Any additional funds raised beyond this goal will go to MACPM administrative costs.
Thank you for your contribution.
