Renovation & Construction Support

Prior to 1983, Memorial Tabernacle Church was known as Christ Holy Sanctified Church. Its founders Bishop Judge and Mother Sarah Ann King originally established it as a mission church in 1925. The church was located in a two-story house on Seventh Street in West Oakland known as “hell’s half-acre” because of the vice, crime, and illegal activity within the community. Under their leadership, the church grew into a center of influence within the heart of the community, as well as one of the great centers of evangelism in the classical Pentecostal tradition in the Bay Area.

In 1960, the U. S. Postal Service purchased several blocks of land and property on Seventh Street, forcing the church to find a new home.  The Holy Spirit directed the church leaders to North Oakland, purchasing a vacated church building from the Evangelical and Reformed Church on the corner of 58th Street and Telegraph Avenue (our current location).

For over ninety years the church, its vision, and love for its community continues to live on today! Regardless of who you are, what you are doing through, what you have been through, you are invited to find your place to GROW at Memorial Tabernacle Church (MTC). Through the collective impact of its Outreach Ministries and partnerships with Oakland businesses, schools, and community organizations, MTC believes in building true community relations with a simple method of reaching one person and one block at a time.

However, we cannot forsake the house of God (Ezra 9:9). Our church and adjacent buildings were built in the late 1920s and are in much need of repair and renovation so we might do an even greater work within our community. To better serve and meet the needs of our community, we are believing and asking God for $600,000 by the end of 2016 into the Foundation Fund.  With the financial support received via the fund, we will do the following:
- Roofing and painting $ 200,000
- Electrical & plumbing $ 50,000
- Payoff our church mortgage $ 60,000
- Renovations for handicap & disability $ 30,000
- Church Annex $ 260,000 (low est.)

With the construction of the Church Annex, also called the Legacy Building, we will be able to impact the lives of community members through social works as well as spiritual needs. We will also further develop opportunities, aligning with like-missioned community programs in which we have established relationships and those we will connect with.

We cannot do this on our own so we are reaching out to you - our friends, vision supporters, faith partners , and those we have yet to meet!  It is our prayer by the end of 2016 we will have raised exactly what we need without borrowing from a lender.   Would you pledge your support the Foundation Fund?  Please do so today.

We do not desire to only accept your support, but we welcome you to worship  us at Memorial Tabernacle Church.  Connect online - Facebook , Instagram , & Twitter .  Commit with us in becoming change agents to a community in need of love, support, and hope.  We thank you in advance!
