Sierra Academy has the opportunity for a long term home. We are so honored to be joining the rich history of learning that has lived in the Nevada City Elementary school building. We are proud this will be where we put down our roots. We invite you to join us in helping with the costs to get our program moved and settled into our new school. Although we've budgeted well and can swing the costs of this big move and the setting up of our space, we invite you to help.
Sierra Academy is revolutionizing education with a growth mindset-based approach to teaching and learning through projects, fieldwork, adventure, and service. Our high school has community partnerships that allow student work to make a real world impact by giving back to make a better world . Not only do students study how to make a difference, they actually investigate and contribute to solving local problems. We are empowering changemakers using the nationally recognized EL Education school model.
We started small, but mighty. We are now four years old with students graduating ready for college and career, getting acceptances from excellent public and private colleges throughout the country. Many said this couldn't be done. We now have the opportunity to move into a forever home. Here is a detailed breakdown of all we are hoping to raise, and we've set a goal of at least 50% of the full amount of the move and set up to get the ball rolling by June 1st as we will be moving in on July 2, 2018!
This is a school of passionate, dedicated educators, an engaged group of families and students, within a community ripe for the engagement of its young citizens. 50% of our students will be the first in their families to go to college. 30% of our students are on free and reduced lunch. 100% of our students will graduate eligible for a 4 year college. Instead of being isolated by our rural environment, we link up with non-profits to dig into the good work that needs to be done here. We use the Sierra Nevada foothills as an adventure testing ground for student character and skills. We never quit. We’re so excited to finally have a forever home worthy of the work our students are doing to change their world for the better.
