San Juan, TX Mural Project

We are the students at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV),  located in deep South Texas.  We are a Mexican American Studies service learning class comprised of undergrduate and graduate students who are taking this course to engage with our community and give back to it.

We are currently working with the Department of Parks and Recreation of the City of San Juan to create a mural at Mayfield Softball & Baseball Park located at 1419 S San Antonio Ave, San Juan, TX 78589.

Our goal is to fundraise $2,500 for the paint, supplies, and materials needed to complete the project. We will need the money as quickly as possible and hope to have this project completed by late April or Early May of this academic school year.

This would be the second time that the Mexican American Studies Program at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, will be working with the City of San Juan on a mural project in the city. Previously, the program did a mural, honoring the Bracero & Farmworkers and their huge impact they had on the city of San Juan and Rio Grande Valley. A link of the video is below.

Our theme this year for the mural will be "Sports, Triumph,  y  Educacion." We hope this mural will honor not only the rich history of the City of San Juan but also inspire the many children and teens that use the facilities to pursue higher education. The profile picture on our Gofundme account is a sketch of just one of the walls for the complex.
