19yr old funeral cost Luis Carrillo

Luis E. Carrillo Burgos was diagnosed with testicular cancer in April of 2015, at the age of 18. He was scared, but only shared those feelings with a few individuals. He was a fighter and he never complained, even when he was going through chemo.  Even after he was told the cancer had spread, to his abdomen, and lungs, he kept his spirits high. He would tease his mother when she cried for him, in attempts to console her. He was loved by his peers and was kind hearted by nature.

About two weeks ago he was at home recovering from chemo and celebrating his 19th birthday. His spirits were high and he was content. His mother, a single parent of three is a hard worker provided for her children working full time, also taking care of Luis's medical needs. On this occasion she needed to run an errand, but did not want to leave Luis alone. Luis reassured her that he would be fine, which she did not suspect anything different that would have alerted her of what was to come. She hurried back home and found him unconscious on the floor seizing. Luis was transferred to the hospital, where she was informed that the seizure had cause him to fall, which resulted in a severe head bleed. Scared and confused with all the medical language his mother attempted to reach out for support due to his negative prognosis.

She was given a choice to let him go or have brain surgery, which he might not survive. His mother decided to give him the chance and chose the surgery.  After the procedure, the doctors reported it was a miracle he survived the operation. They had found more tumors in his brain and an extensive head bleed.  At this point there was nothing else they could do but just wait, for him to respond or disconnect him from life support. His mother decided to wait and pray for God to have his way.  Although prayers and support surrounded our family, the end of the day his mother was alone with her child and would witness his suffering.  Luis would seize at any slight touch, and required more pain medication in an attempt to calm his attacks.

After waiting for a couple of days, the decision was made to give him a chance to breathe on his own. The doctors reminded us that he might not breathe on his own after respiratory support was turned off, however Luis surprised us all!  After the breathing tube was removed Luis kept fighting, by breathing on his own.  He fought for a week, while his mother would care for him around the clock. She refused to leave his side. She refused him to die alone. We all had hopes that he would recover even with the slightest movements he made. We stayed positive and kept praying for a miracle, because it seemed he was getting better.

On Sunday 1/31 at 2:15pm, he took his last breath, his pain was gone, and he was at peace. Surrounded by his close family we said our goodbyes.

My name is Janet and my cousin Luis will truly be missed. We are now raising money to help his mother with funeral expenses, pending medical bills, and other expenses due to her not working for the last month while he was hospitalized.

Your blessing, no matter how small the donation, is much appreciated.

We want to thank everyone for prayers, visits, and meals. Also for your time and support.

Please continue to pray for our family, because now we have a difficult road ahead to live without him. Luis is gone and we loved him dearly, but in our hearts he is alive and will never be forgotten.
