Help Louie Get Better!

Hello Everyone,

This past July we adopted Louie and welcomed him to our family alongside Oskar and Maya.

Louie is a very sweet cat.  He's sensitive, goofy, and a good listener - and we love him very much. As some of you may know, he's had some unexpected health issues. 34036944_154059989268574_r.jpeg
Back in September, we noticed Louie was acting strangely. He was making frequent trips to the litter box and squatting in odd places around our apartment-- very abnormal for him. We kept an eye on him for a bit, until he became vocal with yowls of pain. That was when we knew something was very wrong. We rushed him to the kitty ER and he was immediately taken in and treated for a urinary blockage. They told us he could have died from this and thankfully we made it in time.

The vet bill was shocking, but with your help, we were able to cover it.

We put Louie on a special diet and hoped that we would never have to go through this ordeal again.

But just a month and a half after Louie's last hospital stay, we began to see the signs again (frequent trips to the litter box, squatting in odd places, and sad meowing).

We brought him back to the hospital last night and sure enough, he was blocked again. His newest visit will cost anywhere between $1,500-2,100

With this second recurrence just a month after the first, we now have to assume it will keep happening. But there is a potential solution.

Urinary issues are somewhat common and life-threatening in male cats. But, for repeat offenders, there is a surgical option. A PU (Perineal Urethrostomy) surgery will drastically (99%)  reduce his chances of suffering from a blockage again.  But this surgery is expensive. Estimates we've received for the care, surgery, and hospital stay would cost around $2,500, give or take. Yikes.

On top of all of the pee issues, we also discovered he has a heart murmur and some teeth that need to be removed which is going to add on to his already hefty medical bills.

This is all relatively unexpected, and we really don't know how much this will cost. I have made this Gofundme for $6,000. He's in the hospital right now, and I will provide you all with frequent updates!

Louie's had a rough three years prior to our adopting him, and we know we can give him a happy home and love and treats and rubs that he deserves. He's a great cat and we just want to get him healthy.

We have been blown away by your love and support for Louie and we are truly lucky to have you.

Love,
Oskar, Maya, Louie, @Cakes1toDough1 (Audrey), and @Decalex (Alex)

Hi everyone. Checking in here on our favorite little grey cat. It's been a good few weeks with close monitoring. He's been more and more social and he's been finding his mojo in the household. We've been following doctors' and everyone's recommendations to take all preventative measures before going for the surgery and it seemed to have been helping.

Last night, we noticed Louie acting strangely -- the all too familiar frequent trips to the litter box, which is usually the first sign of another blockage. Sure enough, it has escalated and we're unfortunately heading into round three. Poor guy :(. Luckily we've caught it early again and are making preparations for the unblock and surgery as soon as possible. We've stocked up on medication to keep him as comfortable as possible until we get him to the vet in the morning. We'll keep you all updated on little Louie's progress.

Thank you all again for your support.

Hello Everyone!

Louie has been doing so much better the past few days. He is still a bit growly, on edge, and taking frequent pee breaks, but this is to be expected.

I still have a fair amount of anxiety over him becoming blocked again, which is a real possibility, so we're keeping a close eye on him.

As I mentioned on Snapchat, I will be picking three donors at random to receive a personalized custom Snapart or Photoshop, so stay tuned!

Thank you all.
