Hello, everyone.
My name is Lora Gray and, this summer, I've been invited to attend Clarion West .
I am asking for your help to make this amazing journey possible!
WHAT IS CLARION WEST? Clarion West is an intensive 6 week writing program geared toward preparing promising writers for a professional career in speculative fiction. It takes place in Seattle, Washington and is taught by some of the most well respected writers and editors in the field.
Each year, 18 students from around the world are selected to attend.
It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'm beyond honored to have been chosen!
SO...WHAT ABOUT YOU? I'm a native of Northeast Ohio where I currently live with my husband and my freakishly smart cat, Cecil. I work as a writer, freelance artist and dance instructor/choreographer.
I've been writing for, literally, as long as I can remember. My childhood was peppered with dragons and unicorns. My teenage years were full of fanfictions and would-be novels hammered out on an ancient word processor. I was a writing minor in college and my short fiction and poetry have appeared, or is forthcoming, in a handful of magazines and anthologies including Strange Horizons, Latchkey Tales Elementals: Wings of Air, Slipstream, Arsenic Lobster, Happy Literary Journal and Connections.
WHAT WILL THE MONEY BE USED FOR? Tuition fees, travel expenses and food.
HOW SOON DO YOU NEED THE MONEY? Clarion West begins June 19th, 2016, so the goal is to raise the money before then.
SPECIAL THANK YOU REWARDS! Everyone who donates will get a personalized thank you email as well as updates here about the weeks leading up to the workshop.
I'm also offering special donation rewards at the $25, $50 and $100 levels, (which makes me feel a little like PBS...which is kind of awesome!)
$25 gets you a personal postcard from Seattle!
$50 gets you an art print of one of my original characters!
$100 gets you a signed, limited edition mini book of my poetry!
