London Mood Disoders Support Group

Donation protected

Who we are:
We provide an inclusive and safe environment for people of all age groups with mental illness who can share their personal experiences with mental illness without judgment and provide moral support to one another.  We provide additional help by making information about services available in our community.

We meet every Wednesday evening from 7:30 - 9:00 at the CMHA Queens Ave site 534 Queens Ave (corner of Queen Ave and Williams St London, Ontario).

The Group is lead by people who have mental health illnesses themselves. Meaning, we are mindfully attuned and have an amazing amount of compassion and understanding for people with mental illness.

Member Feedback:
“Because of this support group I have not been admitted to the hospital in 7 years. If I didn’t have this support group I’d have to go to the hospital more frequently.”
“If I didn’t have this group I would be lost in life.”

Did you know:
·         1 in 3 Canadians met the criteria for at least 1 mental illness disorder at some point in their life.
·         Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women from adolescence to middle age.
·         The economic cost of mental illness in Canada for the health care system was estimated to be at least $7.9 billion in 1998, and in 1999 3.8% of all hospital admissions in general hospitals were due to a mood disorder and/or suicidal behaviour.

Why your donation is important to us:
Your gift of any denomination will supports us in our mission to promote the importance of mental health and help people with mental illness.

Our biggest challenge right now is getting the word out about our group as we have recently moved to a new location.

Something we would like to  make available to our members is a library of books and articles regarding to mental illness. This material has proven to be helpful to our members, and perhaps an information newsletter on a regular basis would also prove to be helpful.

Our long-term goal would be to get charitable status. This would open a lot of doors for us so that we can do more for our community. Several free services and grants are not available to us because we don't have a charitable status.

Please join in on helping the London & Region Mood Disorder Self Help Group team as we work together to make a meaningful contribution to our community.
