Project Literacy - Syrian Refugees

Donation protected
I remember reading a book in grade 6 that referenced a character who's grandfather was from Pakistan. Peculiar.  It was a selected book for our entire class. In English.  With all characters, Western.  I can't remember the name of the book, but I'll never forget that good feeling.

That's how Syrian refugees will feel after experiencing:

1) Creative picture book Khadijah goes to School  (in English)
2) The Champion for Life(TM), a 300 language Human Progress social idea.  Poster: 2 feet high X 3 feet wide.

I intend to run this campaign in 2 steps:

Step 1:
Raise $1000 for printing costs for both items for 100 Syrian refugee families in Toronto.  Smaller quantities cost more with the poster unit price costing the most.

Step 2:
I will distribute both educational items to Syrian refugees.  I am OPEN to working with 1 or more groups/people. This is being worked out as we speak but will be easy to deliver as there are many groups/people looking for educational material.  Email [email redacted] if interested.

Both items make a critical difference in empowerment because Syrian refugees can SEE themselves in the work.  MORE reasons:

1) Refugees can relate to Khadijah (the main character), a young girl in a hijab (scarf) in pictures
2) Refugees can relate to the English/Arabic calligraphy
3) Opens from the right! (Like Arabic, yet in English)
4) Is about new beginnings, the Canadian flag present on some pages including the cover!

And a beautiful experience for ALL:

5) Explores the power of Literacy and Education
6) Explores the power of Human Potential
7) The story is centred around the human message of "Helping Yourself And Helping Other People(TM)"
8) Produced in and based in Canada, the country Syrian refugees now call home.

Some REVIEWS on Khadijah goes to School:

"...innovative, colourful and groundbreaking."  – NOW Magazine

Reading is believing…It also champions diversity…
– UofT Magazine

“It truly encapsulates the spirit of The Word On The Street as it promotes literacy as a fundamental skill of a good life.”  – The Word on The Street Toronto

Ultimately, these reasons align with the human story of Progress. The Syrian refugee story is no different and for all these good reasons and more, make a great welcome gift.

I look forward to a successful campaign.  Every dollar matters!  Your contribution makes all the difference.

Thank you.
