Emergency Women's Shelter Funds

Tax deductible
A Place For Change, A Home For Healing

“You’re suffering today, but tomorrow it could be ME.”

Some of us are only one paycheck, one decision or one tragedy away from losing our safety, our homes… our everything.

The Lighthouse Home, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) Nonprofit women’s shelter, a home for those wanting to start a new life to regain their independence. These women come from all walks of life: young women and elders, scholars and high school dropouts, locals and even those who have travelled a great distance to start over. Many of these women have found their way to The Lighthouse Home while struggling to fight back against violence in their previous homes, substance abuse and life events that left them without shelter.

The Lighthouse Home is in need of some serious repairs and updates. Recently, an unresolved roofing issue also revealed significant problems to the siding of the home. (the photo below shows just a small part of the damage) After 17 years of operation, there is overdue maintenance for both the exterior and interior of the home that now requires immediate attention. Vanessa is asking for any monetary donations, building materials/supplies or physical labor that can be provided to fix these urgent issues.

Vanessa Scaife, Founder and Director of the Lighthouse Home, is a breast cancer survivor who has bravely overcome every battle thrown her way including being homeless. She knows that the road to recovery is one we must walk our entire lives, but that we never have to walk that road alone. It only takes one lapse in judgement, one moment of weakness, one need for escape from the crippling pressures of life to take you spiraling into addiction and/or homelessness. This is why she created The Lighthouse Home in Rocky Mount, NC -  one of the poorest cities in the nation.

So far, Vanessa has relied on her own merits to keep the Lights on at the home, but now she needs our help. A dollar, a hundred or even just sharing this page can make a world of difference for these women and all the women who will find themselves at the Lighthouse Home. Vanessa has been the light that guides these women through the darkness and gives them hope that they will make it to tomorrow because she once walked in their shoes and survived. Now she asks for your help, because remember, we would want help if it happened us.
