Leonel Salvador:Drowned at Bantam Lake

News Article

Leonel Salvador was the most responsible, handsome, and caring family man I have ever known. He worked everyday and spent the time he did not with his family. He was a excellent bilingual student.

I miss him so much it hurts. I’m in shock at what to do. But I know I need to help because I believe that’s what he would want.

Today Leonel Ricardo Salvador drowned in Bantam Lake in Connecticut while out fishing with his girlfriend and kids. He was only 19 years old and 3 days away from his 20th birthday on July 3rd.

He started his day with his family, they ate breakfast as usual and pack to go to the lake to fish. Leonel loved to fish. He took a break from fishing to try to swim to a ski launch only about 50 meters away.  He went under due to a large set of waves caused by passing boats.

I tried to search for him but couldn’t see anything. He went under the water just 10 ft. away from the ramp and it took paramedics almost 1 hour to find his body, while I stood on the bank and was instructed to not go back in the water by rescue personnel as they searched.

He was later pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

I held his hand for hours until they removed me from the room. It’s the last moments I spent with him.

This page is to honor his memory by helping our family in this time of need. Acts of kindness are very appreciated and needed.

All funds will go to help pay for a headstone for his unmarked grave.

Its like he’s everywhere still. His shoes are still by the front door. Nothing touched in his car.

We can’t seem to say goodbye. We will miss you more than you know.
