Laura's fund to help refugees Chios

My name is Laura and I'm a music teacher from Brighton.

I'm planning to volunteer for two weeks in Chios (a Greek island just off the coast of Turkey) over Christmas and New Year, to help refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan arriving on dinghies from Turkey.
 

I can only volunteer my time, as I am on a low income so I cannot afford the flights over there.  

I am answering urgent call-outs online from Chios, which is one of the islands with the most need for volunteers and help. They have very little infrastructure, almost no support from NGOs and only very few volunteers on that particular island.

Currently the cheapest way to get there is to fly via Athens, then get a boat from Athen to Chios. I need to raise £500-£550 minimum to get over there. I need to raise this minimum amount as quickly as possible, but by 24th December absoute latest

In addition to this minimum amount, I am raising further funds to buy much-needed supplies in advance
to distribute to refugees once I arrive, as well as to buy in Greece on the ground when I am there. New packets of nappies, underwear, socks, sanitary towels, small packets of food and basic medical supplies will be priority before leaving as they are small and can fit in luggage, and there is a high need for these items, with limited supplies available on the islands.

The price of flights is changing every day so the minimum amount I need to raise may change, as may my dates of travel, depending on when the cheapest flights are. I intend to fly by Christmas day latest, however the sooner I raise the money, the sooner I can go. Ideally I would leave by Tuesday 22nd December if possible... If I do not raise enough funds to pay for my flight I will donate all the money raised to helping other volunteers I know personally who are also looking to going over there. Any remaining funds raised after paying for volunteer travel will go direct to volunteers already on the ground in Chios so that they can spend the money on food, medical supplies and warm clothing.
