HELP SAVE LAKE ATTITASH

$246,106 of $240,000 goal

Raised by 161 people in 24 months
Like many water bodies, Lake Attitash located in Amesbury & Merrimac, MA is vulnerable to cyanobacteria blooms.  High concentrations of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are a health hazard.

After several years of research, Lake Attitash Association (LAA) has identified a long term solution to the cyanobacteria problem which is eligible for Massachusetts DEP grant funds.  If awarded, the DEP grant provides a 60% funding match towards this $600,000 ALUM treatment.  This is an amazing opportunity which LAA is working hard to take advantage of!  In order to apply for the grant, we need to raise our $240,000 portion by January 31, 2017.

High concentrations of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are a health hazard to everyone who uses the lake. According to  Massachusetts Dept. Public Health:
-Contact with these algae can cause skin and eye irritation.
-Ingesting small amounts can cause gastrointestinal symptoms.
-Ingesting large amounts may cause liver or neurological damage

Lake Attitash is a secondary water supply for Amesbury, MA and has a far reaching impact on the surrounding communities.

We are a non profit community association, who work with both Amersbury and Merrimac to protect this vital resource.  All donations are tax deductable.

The time to donate is now.  Please help us save our lake!

Great news!

The City of Amesbury has been AWARDED the Massachusetts Dept. of Environmental Protection 319 grant that the Lake Attitash Association, Town of Merrimac, City of Amesbury and donors like you have been working so hard to get. With the DEP $352,000 grant added to the $241,000 raised as matching funds, there is now almost $600,000 committed to treat the growing Cyanobacteria problem in Lake Attitash. A great big thanks goes out to those of you who have supported this cause, including the state, town and city officials representing Amesbury and Merrimac. Without all of you this goal would not have been met.

The next steps include the permitting process and collection of data to get to the stage where treatment can occur. Updates on progress will be sent out over time, and you are urged to log in to the Lake Attitash Website, www.lakeattitash.org for more information on this and other Lake Attitash Association activities.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you all.

Unbelievable. We are just $427 short of our goal. In just about a year almost $240,000 has been raised as a match needed to submit a grant for another $360,000. With your help the grant match has been met and the grant has been submitted. We should know in October if we get awarded the rest of the money we need to treat the lake for blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria. Again.... Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all.

Wow!!! We are just about there. It's been a long haul and at times looked bleak, but you did it and we are close to raising the full $240,000. A big thanks to all our donors, big and small, to the City of Amesbury and the town of Merrimac for stepping up to the plate. We're not far off and after all the work to get this far I'm sure the last little bit will be there. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you one and all.

THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD - We are getting very close to the amount we need to be able to apply for a $360,000 grant to combat the dreaded blue-green algae found in Lake Attitash. We are hoping to get another $20,000 from the Town of Merrimac at the Annual Town Meeting on May 8th, and with those funds will be only short of our goal by a small amount. Any additional donations now will put us over the top and give us a little cushion for those pesky unforeseen costs. Thanks to all of you who have donated.

Merrimac residents, please go to theTown Meeting on May 8th at 7:30 and vote for the remaining funds to be allocated to Lake Attitash.
