The Gospel Music Workshop of America, an international organization of gospel enthusiasts, hosts an annual convention – where thousands of people gather to share the joy of gospel music, through good times and bad.
Lighthouse Singers Gospel Choir made history when we first appeared at the convention in 1984. We rocked the house and broke the race barrier; we are the first and only predominately white choir to perform at the convention.
Now, in this time of too many Fergusons, we’re on our way to the convention once again. In 2016, Lighthouse will sing at the GMWA Convention in Birmingham, Alabama.
Birmingham was the site of the infamous church bombing of 1963; the city is a symbol of the violence of race relations in the United States and the struggle for racial justice.
When Lighthouse appears in Birmingham, we will transcend the boundaries of race as we lift our voices for justice, inclusivity and peace.
Stand with us – we need your help! Basic expenses for Lighthouse Singers will run between $20,000-30,000 to travel and stay in Birmingham. Our goal is to raise $20,000 in this campaign by March 1, 2016 and $30,000 by June 1. Then we hit Birmingham, from July 24-30.
Lighthouse is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) organization; we are self-supporting and unaffiliated with any church or religion. Donations are tax-deductible and we will provide written acknowledgement of all contributions in excess of $75 for use in your tax filing.
