Help US Navy Combat Veteran Family

Donation protected
My wife and I have been fighting with homelessness, struggling to pay for college, and life in general.

I am a United States Navy Veteran; I was in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom from February 1999-2003. I had the excellent opportunity to travel around the world on the USS John F. Kennedy, while I was overseas I learned a lot about the culture of other countries, and I came to the realization, just how much I love my country.

The military gave me many things, but I lost many as well. I am fighting PTSD and struggle every day to keep myself above the water. I watched some of my friends get killed on the decks of the JFK. With all of that, I stayed focused and finished my service honorably.

Life happens, and it hasn't always been bad. I married my wife Samantha and this year will be our ten-year anniversary. Sam has a daughter that I have raised as my own, and for the sake of letting you know our story and the importance of why we need help, I say that she is Samantha's daughter when in all actuality she is our daughter. I have raised her and considered her mine.

When I lost my job, we lost our home, car, and everything else. It was the hardest time in our lives, we stayed in hotels for almost a year, and no matter how hard I tried to get a job to make things better I could not get us above water. My wife and I could not have our daughter in a tent, so four years ago we sent her to stay with family in Florida. I have been in college for two years; I am halfway through to getting my bachelor’s degree in Sustainability from Arizona State University.

Last week when we were accepted into the HUD-VASH program, in which we will get a HUD voucher for a home. The orientation is on May 2nd, and hopefully, we will be in a house for at least a year, it will be the first time we have been in a home in 5 years. My wife and I are currently living in a trailer. Without the help of someone who did not know us, they took us off the streets and gave us an opportunity to change our lives.

We have not squandered it, we have utilized it wisely.
However, because of when I served I am not able to use my Post 9/11 G.I. Bill to continue my education (after 15 years you can no longer use it). So, I am in a considerable amount of debt. That is not why we need help. Our daughter is graduating from high school on May 17th in North Port, Fl. I missed our first daughter's graduation, and it just about destroyed me. I do not want to disappoint another daughter, and I am reaching out to anyone that would or could help us get to my daughter's graduation ceremony. I don't care if it is just to see her graduate and we can come home.

For the longest time, I haven't asked for help because of my pride, and that has gotten my family and me nowhere. We are slowly climbing ourselves out of a giant whole, and with your help, we might be able to get over one of our last hurdles. I appreciate your time and if you decide to help we are keeping everyone updated on our trip to see our daughter graduate, videos, and pictures. I could never imagine that I would be at this point in our lives, where we need help, but we are here. It is up to you, now!
