Making a Difference for King Anthony

Meet King Anthony—a handsome 2 year old boy who was born with holoprosencephaly, hydrocephaly, hypertonia and spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Along with these medical conditions he has developmental delays, is non-verbal, non-ambulatory and can’t hold his head up as his head is severely oversized. This makes holding him, feeding him, laying him down and positioning him very challenging.
He attends the Ann Storck Center Early Intervention Preschool where he receives Occupational, Speech and Physical therapy on a consistent basis. He is fed via a g-tube; however he does accept pureed foods that he likes. He has a smile and beautiful bright wide eyes that will melt any heart. His mom is a young single mother, working a full time job doing the best she can do. She is completely involved in all of his educational and therapeutic needs and acts as not only his very caring mother but as his advocate for all his needs.
At school he has the appropriate adaptive equipment, however it is used by other children with special needs and the school is unable to send the equipment home. Mom struggles financially and cannot afford to purchase this type of equipment. His mother’s most current challenge is getting him into a chair that will hold him in a position safe enough, soft enough and reclined enough, with enough head support to feed him.
His physical therapist suggested the most appropriate piece of equipment for him would be a Special Tomato Soft-Touch Floor Sitter. This seat would allow the child the head support, trunk support, reclined positioning, soft base and height to allow mom to sit him there comfortably. This would allow the child to sit up and engage in other activities in his home environment as well and free up the grandparents to help mom in other ways than holding him for feedings.
