Khan's Vet Bills

$2,770 of $8,000 goal

Khan was admitted to emergency care early on Wednesday, April 17, for kidney failure. The doctors said he may have a urinary tract infection or a kidney stone, but his condition is life-threatening because of his heart problem. A lot is unknown at the moment, but we need immediate help because the vet quoted estimates just for the next few days total up to $4,500.00 beyond the money we have already raised, and he will need continuing care and treatment. This is money we have to raise within one to two days because the vets may not continue treating him without prepayment and he will not survive without treatment. When I visited Khan at the vet, as they were giving him fluid therapy (pictured below), he got up and I petted him and cuddled with him. He was also up and about for the vets and they said he was being a good boy and had good energy. It’s clear to me that he wants to come back home and the vet said his condition is worth treating and we have reason to be optimistic.

Whoever said "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" didn't know Khan because he recently learned how to use his stairs and he hardly needed any coaxing. After our first try, shown below, he made it look downright easy.

Khan was attacked by a big dog last year, but he’s strong and a real trooper who loves to play tug, sleep in the laundry basket, and get lots of back rubs and time in his daddy’s lap.

Words can’t express what Khan means to my family and I. I’ve had so many losses and traumas in my life and he’s always been there for me. He’s one of the few family members I have left. It will be three years since I lost my mother to cancer this Friday, April 19, and Khan was there for me through losing her. He was also there for me through losing my father, and has been there for me through my step-father’s cancer. Khan has been a source of love and support as I try to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I could not have done so much of my advocacy work for equality and social justice without him. He helps me deal with my flashbacks, anxiety, and depression and so much more. I have no doubt that he’s saved my life more than once. He’s been a wonderful source of unconditional love and friendship to our family for years. I truly cannot imagine my life without him.

I wanted to let everyone know Khan is hanging in there. We're not out of the woods, but we're still going for our walks, snuggling, and playing when Khan is feeling up to it. With all of Khan's daily medications, his prescription diet, and more visits with his specialists, Khan’s medical needs will cost thousands of dollars more. We are still struggling, and Khan's pet insurance company was of no help, so we really need every bit of continued help and support we can get to help our boy.

Thank you so much for your amazing support and help everyone! Your donations and sharing Khan’s page with others has made a much needed difference for Khan and for our family. Thank you!

I will continue giving updates as we're able. Please continue helping in any way you can. Sharing the link to Khan's page over email, text, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media is a huge help. No donation is too small because they all add up and have helped so much with getting Khan the medications, treatment, and special diet he needs. Thank you so much!

With all our hearts and immense gratitude and love,

--DaShanne and all of Khan’s friends and family

I wanted to let everyone know that Khan is getting better. I just went to see him a little while ago and the doctors said that Khan was eating and drinking more. He also wagged his tail for me when I petted him. The picture below is from when I saw him this morning. The doctors said he's going to need some additional new medications and he is going to need a lot of ongoing care, but the doctor is hopeful that we might be able to bring him home tonight. We barely slept because we've been doing everything we can to get Khan the help he needs. We're not out of the woods, but but I'm thrilled that we might be able to bring him back home tonight. Thanks so much for the amazing support and help everyone! I will continue giving updates as we're able. Please continue helping in any way you can. Sharing the link to Khan's page over email, text, and social media has itself proven to be a huge help. Thank you!

The warm support and generosity everyone has shown means the world to us and is appreciated more than I can put into words. It really is overwhelming and gives us hope. I'll be going back to check on Khan tomorrow morning and will let everyone know how he is doing. Please continue helping us get the word out and share the link to his page in every way possible. You can call people, send emails and text messages, post across social media... Every pair of eyes we can get to Khan's fundraiser brings him that much closer to getting the treatment he needs and that much closer to bringing my boy back home. Thank you so much for your help and everything you do!

With our deepest love and appreciation,

DaShanne and the rest of Khan's family
