I am reaching out for help from family & friends during this long recovery for my Step Dad Keith. Keith was diagnosed with Guillian-Barre Syndrome on Saturday June 30th. I will post the story below that my mom posted on her facebook. With that being said, Keith has a very long recovery ahead of him. Not only will it be hard on him physically its going to be hard on my mother (Karla) financially through this process as well as mentally and physically. Right now they are keeping Keith in CCU for 10 days for treatments (platelet transfusions) My mom wants to stay close by because they warned her this will be attacking his respiratory system soon. My mom doesn’t want to stray far from Keith. She is staying in a hotel room a floor above Keiths room that is $66 a night $70 after taxes. She is paid up until this Friday. Once he is done with the treatment he will need to stay for another 4-6 weeks for in house therapy at this point my mom would be traveling back and forth daily so gas will get costly. She would like to stay at least 2-3 times a weeks at the hotel so she doesn’t have to travel as much. Im sure that can get exhausting. While shes there she will need to keep herself fed to keep the energy to help with Keith. We aren’t the ones to reach out and ask for help so anything will be greatly appreciated. I did some math and calculated how much the hotel would be for the rest of his treatment and then 2 times a week for 6 weeks, plus gas for each week and about $20 a day for food. Prayers are greatly appreciated. This is going to be hard on the both of them and I Pray God keeps his hands on Keith through all of this. Thanks for reading this. Ill post the story of keith below:

I have decided to post the bad news that we have received so that we can get a prayer list going for my husband Keith Rexroad.Eleven days ago Keith came to me and told me that his calf muscles were sore, feet were numb, toes were tingling, neck was hurting. He went from sore calf muscles to being paralyzed completely in his legs feet and hands within 9 days. EVERYDAY HIS SYMPTOMS PROGRESSED! During this time I took him two 2 regular office visits, five ER visits, one Neurologist visit, one NeuroSurgeon vist, two MRIs, One CT, and one xray. Over three fourths of the healthcare providers treated him as if he was a pill seeker. My husband would ONLY take ibp 800 or tylenol for pain prior to his diagnoses. I begged, cried, and pleaded for SOMEONE to please admit him, run test, and figure out wth was happening to him. His body was in massive pain with no relief in sight!Saturday morning at 4 he could not take the pain so I decided to bring him to Wake Med Hospital. After getting passed the judgemental triage nurse and PA, God sent in an Angel named Dr. Cole. He told Keith he could see he was laying in that bed suffering and he believed him that he was in pain. He also told him he had suspicion about his diagnosis and that they would need to do a lumbar puncture to verify AND HE WOULD BE ADMITTING HIM! I lost it! Cried like a baby! I was SO RELIEVED THAT SOMEONE HAD FINALLY HEARD OUR DESPERATE CRIES FOR HELP!My husband has been diagnosed with Guillian-Barre Syndrome. It is a very RARE condition that attacks the nervous system. It is very rapid and attacks fast. For four weeks and attacks, Keith is on day 12. It will soon attack his respiratory system and he will be on a ventilator. I know when this day comes, its going to be extremely hard on me and the family. There doctors say that there is a high recovery success rate BUT it will be a longggggg recovery process. He will be here at Wake for at least ten days doing treatment kind of like dialysis to regenerate his plasma and wing out the antibodies that are attacking his nerves. Then he will remain here at Wake in the rehab department for 4-6 weeks to learn how to work his arms and hands again and to learn to walk again. Normal recovery time averages about a year. There are several reasons why I have shared this. 1. Please pray for Keith Rexroad, he has gone through so much pain and suffering2. I wanted to make others aware of this auto immune disorder and the rapid destruction it does3. To inform my family and friends that I havent had the time to inform. I have had about a hr sleep a day for ten days but finally slept about six hrs last night, thanks to my sister in law.4. To thank those that have called, text, prayed, visited. 5. And to apologize if I have not been able to get back with someoneI beg you to take a moment to pray for Keith, he needs it now more than ever!I will try to keep everyone updated daily on here so that I do not have to keep telling it over and over again. Thank u all in advance.
