Keep Jamie at Home

Last spring our dear friend Jamie Showkeir received the nightmare diagnosis of ALS. Unfortunately this terrible disease progressed rapidly. By July, Jamie needed the support of a cane. By October his legs no longer supported him.
Today Jamie has only 20% use of his arms, cannot feed himself, and uses a wheelchair for mobility. In addition, he needs total assistance getting in and out of the chair as well as with other tasks of daily living.
Throughout all this, our dear friend remains a bright, loving, generous man, who is mentally sound and engaged in life. He is teaching us about the true meaning of authenticity, presence and courage.
How you can help Jamie
Health insurance helps with medical needs, but NOT with in-home care. Jamie is too large for his wife, Maren, to lift. He has reached the point where he needs professional caregivers to:
➤ Get him out of bed, shower, shave, and dress him in the morning.
➤ Provide toiletry and other personal care, and move him during the day.
➤ Undress and prepare him for bed.
➤ Reposition him when he awakes at night.
Professional in-home care will cost Jamie and Maren over $10,000 a month for 16 hours a day .
Our goal is to raise $60,000 for in-home care for six months - so Jamie gets the help he needs now, and so Jamie and Maren can be reassured as they plan for the future.
➤ $2240 will pay for a week of in-home care (16 hours a day).
➤ $320 will pay for one day.
