Karen Z's Cancer Fighting Fund

This is Karen.  She is a single "young" lady who this Spring finally decided to follow her dream of living in South Carolina near the beach.  Since she made the decision to move from Maryland to South Carolina, she has had one obstacle after another all of which she has taken in stride.

But now she has an obstacle that is WAY bigger than she can handle alone - CANCER.

About a week after she made the big move to South Carolina, she noticed blood in her urine maybe twice a week.  At first she didn't think much of it, she was hoping it was just being caused by all the stress of moving to a new state and starting a new life.  But she was wrong.

Within a month, she was seeing the blood in her urine more often - sometimes four to five days a week.  In a new area with a new job she raced to find a Primary Care Provider (PCP) who referred her to a Urologist.  The Urologist found a bladder tumor.  She quickly had surgery to remove the tumor but unfortunately the tumor was very aggressive and had already invaded into the wall of her bladder.  The cancer could not be removed without creating an irreparable hole in the bladder wall.

The final diagnosis is Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer.

Karen is now in the urgent process of planning her next steps:
 - Getting second opinions  (not covered by insurance $$)
 - Meeting with specialists and surgeons (time missed off work and copays $$)
 - Having surgery  to remove her cancerous bladder (insurance only covers a portion $$$)
 - Planning to be out of work at least two to three months for recovery (no money coming in and savings already exhausted $$$$$)

Since she moved to South Carolina, she has been working two jobs just to try to make ends meet.  Now she is scared. She just doesn't know how she is going to be able to make her normal bills - rent. cable. electric. food, insurance, car expenses, etc. plus the medical bills (remember she is still "new" to her jobs and doesn't have any 'paid time off' accrued).  She was able to get short term disability coverage but we all know that doesn't really pay much.  This is too much for her to handle alone.

How YOU can help Karen fight:
Karen is strong and has the fortitude to beat this cancer but this financial burden is WAY too big for her to handle alone. Please donate to Karen’s Cancer Killing Fund.  Any amount, no matter how small is greatly appreciated!
