On October 13, 2016, Karen was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Karen is an incredible woman with an equally incredible husband, George. They are role models of a marriage. They are supportive of each other’s hobbies (Karen going on trips for George’s rowing team and George eating all the wonderful food experiments Karen makes...I think George got the better deal!). They both love wine and planning small/big trips together. They have been through enough of the challenges of life and still come out, to this day, joyfully, appreciative, and faithful...they are truly inspirational! Along with her husband, Karen has 4 equally intelligent children and 2 adorable grandchildren. These are her heart and soul. You can see it in the way she talks about them and how proud she is of their accomplishments.
She is also an intelligent woman whom many admire. She worked hard her whole life and is a role model for those who worked with her, especially the women at her former employer. I can’t count the times she’s helped me with projects, concerns, and frustrations...to guide me to find better solutions and improve myself.
She provides mentorship, whether she realized it or not. Her guidance and desire to help anyone made her invaluable to so many people, whether it was someone that she worked for her, worked with her, or for her. She treated everyone with the same level of respect and kindness.
With the ALS diagnosis, Karen's muscles are essentially deteriorating, having already taken away her ability to speak, eat, and making it increasingly difficult to move and breathe. There is no cure for ALS and it requires expensive equipment and care. We ask for your help, in any way you can.
The funds provided will go directly towards supporting additional in-home caregiving services, as Karen's needs increase.
