Exploring a Global Identity

Donation protected
On May 21st, the students of KIPP Renaissance Early College Academy will take their very first international trip to Panama, a country filled with historical and natural significance. During the trip, students will spend time in Chagres National Park where they will interact with indigenous cultures as they contemplate their place in an everchanging global landscape.  They will also get a chance to see the Miraflores Locks, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.  Most importantly, they will get to see the world beyond themselves and dream big about their place in it.

Supporting this project will make the last piece of our vision a reality for 20 students that will be traveling to Panama from May 21st to May 25th.  Students and families have already paid for lodging, passports, and other fees; however, as a school we would love to be able to cover the cost of flights for students: $486.00.

At KIPP Renaissance Early College Academy, we believe that every student deserves a collegiate- level education grounded in knowledge of history and heritage, rich in character and designed to ensure each student thrives in the four-year college or university of his or her choice.  Our students graduate with a passion to explore the world, a passport in one hand and 60 college credits in the other.  They leave with goals for their individual and collective futures, a plan to accomplish those goals, a strong sense of self and love of community.  We aim to prepare students for the world beyond New Orleans and inspire them to come back to serve.

In 2016, KIPP Renaissance High School (KRHS) became the first open-enrollment school in the New Orleans Recovery School District to earn an "A" rating from the State of Louisiana Department of Education . In 2017 and 2018 KRHS has been named a Silver School by  US News and is currently ranked as the 8th best high school in the state of Louisiana.

Located on the historic St. Claude Avenue in New Orleans' 9th Ward, the students, teachers, staff, and leaders of KRHS work each and everyday to raise the bar for what school can be.  Beginning with the class of 2020, our students will graduate from high school with 60 college credits, a true understanding of self-identity, and a passport to explore the world.

Through our partnership with Bard College, we are the only college degree-granting high school in the state of Louisiana. Beginning in the 11th grade, students take a full course load of college classes taught by Bard College professors. Additionally, as one of three AP Capstone schools in the city of New Orleans, we offer all of our students the opportunity to enroll in advanced classes that accelerate their learning and truly start to prepare them for collegiate-level classes while earning an AP Capstone Diploma.

In addition to our strong academic identity, it is critical that our students ground themselves in knowledge of self. Through our community meetings, field trips across the city, and culturally relevant curriculum our students are consistently engaging in meaningful dialogue that pushes them to consider their place in our city, country, and world.

This trip will build upon the experiences students had last year as they camped in the moutains of Tennessee.

We truly appreciate your love and support as we strive to provide high-quality, transformative experiences that will expand future opportunities for our students!
