Juliet Rose's Journey

My name is Erica Laine and my life changed for the better nearly 8 years ago when Brad and Jordan Boykin entered my life. Brad and I were co-workers, but our friendship didn't go very far outside of work until I met his pregnant wife, Jordan. She was carrying their first child, Jack. This was the most ideal pregnancy and he is now a healthy, smart, kind and handsome 7 year old!
A few years go by and its time to add to the Boykin 3. They received devastating news, not once, but twice that the babies Jordan was carrying were no longer viable. Two miscarriages and broken hearts can break the spirit of a couple. But not the Boykins. With a bit of time to heal, they gathered the courage to try again and with the help of fertility treatments, they are pregnant! In the beginning, the doctors told them this pregancy was no longer viable and to consider the d&c or risk a natural miscarriage. Mother's instinct kicked in and Jordan requested that the HCG levels get checked and you can only guess what they found - the levels were increasing and this baby had a heartbeat at her next appointment! This wasn't an easy pregnancy for Jordan, she was on bed rest most of the time. In and out of the hospital with the bills piling up before the baby was even born. And now its delivery time! In the wee hours of the morning on 24 May 2014, they are on their way to deliver a baby. Then out of nowhere, they are hit by a 21 yr old drunk driver going 90 mph in a 45 mph zone. Their large SUV flipped several times and then slammed into the pine trees along the highway. Brad was left unconcious, pinned in the vehicle and bleeding. He suffered a punctured and collapsed lung, broken clavicle, several broken ribs and each were broken multiple times and a huge gash in his leg. Jordan fared much better because her side of the vehicle did not hit the trees. She had gashes in her feet, glass in her face and a pretty mangled wrist along with a seat belt bruise across her pregnant belly. The drunk driver - he had no issues other than getting hit by a car as he ran away to throw out his liquor bottles. Long story short - the baby was in distress and had to be taken by emergency c-section. Sweet Liliana Dove is now a healthy, sassy, looks like her Daddy 20 month old beauty! They are now the Boykin 4!!

The drunk driver had minimal insurance and the bills have continued to pile up for the Boykins. Brad recovered from his injuries and Jordan has had some ongoing issues since, but she's getting there.

Just 2 days after Liliana's (lil Dove) first birthday, they are surprised to find out that they are pregnant! Something the doctors said would not happen again and completely unexpected! Once again this was not an easy pregnancy and there were complications the entire time. More and more bills! They knew that this baby would fight for her life from the first day she was born and she has. Sweet Juliet Rose was born on 27 Jan 2015 at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Juliet has hydrocephalus and her cute little noggin is enlarged by fluid that is currently being drained by a successful shunt surgery. She may be blind in her left, but hopefully when pressure is released her eye will begin to function. She has a slight cleft nose, which is absolutely the cutest nose I've ever seen (I want to bunny kiss it). She has a special kidney and her colon is enlarged, but both seem to be functioning properly. Sweet baby girl will undergo open heart surgery when she's strong enough for a condition called coarctation of the aorta and to repair the hole in her heart. This little fighter makes them THE BOYKIN 5!

As I type this, my eyes are full of tears for this sweet family. My heart aches for them and I would give anything to take away their heartache and constant worry. So I'm turning to this community and asking for help. They have an overwhelming amount of medical bills that are just piling up. They live in my little town of Niceville, Florida, yet they are having to stay in Gainesville, Florida with their infant daughter while she fights for her life every minute of the day (over 5 hours away). Any donation to them would be used for their medical expenses being incurred while the doctors do everything in their power to give this baby a chance at life.

I can never say Thank You enough for your generosity and support for this family that I love so dearly. They have started a blog to document their journey. Please read their story and share, share, share! And please send them and their team of doctors love, wisdom, prayers, good vibes - whatever you believe in.

All my love, Erica
