Judy C’s Memorial Fund

$1,800 of $1,800 goal

Raised by 29 people in 2 months
This Memorial fund is very simple.

Judy C has been continuously fighting a battle for her quality of life for over 28 years. She has fought viciously in the hospital for the last 5+months. Unfortunately things haven’t gone quite to plan—the story of all of our lives.

Judy became disabled in Feb. 1991, due to a horrible car accident. She fought death then and won. She was in hospital just over a year before being able to return to her youngest two children, then 12 and 7 (1992).

Over the next 28+ years she has been cared for at home by family; her children and grandchildren and countless friends have all contributed to her quality of life. She saw her youngest children through to adulthood. She has seen most of her grandchildren through to adulthood.

She almost left us five years ago, but she fought her way back from sepsis and a ventilator and beat a lot of odds again.

Just over five mos ago Judy opted to have a surgical procedure that was supposed to improve her quality of life. She’d had chronic wounds that were in danger of costing her her life or limb.
Unfortunately, nothing seemed to go as planned from the very beginning. Complications and illness have culminated in a laundry list of life saving procedures since the middle of January of 2019.

Judy’s body is betraying her and she has been on life support for almost 4 mos. Recently we have learned that there is little hope for her situation to improve. Coming home to us is no longer in the cards. Judy feels that her quality of life is no longer acceptable and that perhaps it is time to move on and be with all her family who’ve gone, before.

Our whole family and extended family has had some hand in taking care of her over all these years. All of us. These last 6 months have been especially difficult, as our livelihood literally became our taking care of her.

We waited all these months for a light at the end of the tunnel. We drained our saving to keep up the household bills, waiting for her safe return. Unfortunately it just wasn’t to be.

Now, as we plan for the end, we are setting up this campaign so that when the time comes, we can give her the memorial she deserves. This fund will also support and assist any family members who haven’t the means to make it to her side to see her one last time.

Thank you for reading and supporting our very personal cause.

Note:  as of 5/8/2019 we have lowered our goal to reflect the cost expectations we were quoted to align with Judy’s wishes.

Note: as of 5/11/2019 we have lowered our goal to reflect a reduced potential need for travel funds.

Note:  as of 5/13/2019 we have lowered the final goal to reflect all confirmed costs and fees.

The Final/‘Thank you’ update:

‘Thank you’ is such a paltry phrase. It can hold immense power and meaning, but the words feel too small to express what we are all truly feeling.

When we started this campaign, we really had little hope of finding what we desperately needed to pay Judy’s final expenses. You guys, her wonderful friends, her family, my family, the extended network of family she was so priviledged to pick by choice; you all came through for us and for her like tiny miracles, and even restored our collective faith in humanity—at least a little bit.

I feel like many people also deserve a special thanks. Orion, for contacting his whole side of the family. Pat and Elaine, for contacting that whole side of Judy’s friend network. To everyone who spoke at the memorial service, reminding us all to look at the bright side, like she surely wants us to.

Definitely the most special-est (ha ha) of ‘Thank You’s’ to my sister in law Nicole and and my wonderful husband Robb, who heartbreakingly but masterfully; beautifully, took up the assignments their amazing mother asked of them. You both know how proud she was to be your mom, and clearly you’re proud to be her kids.

We couldn’t have done any of this without each and every person who prayed, sent kind thoughts, visited her, sent cards, sent donations, gave well wishes, sent her gifts, sent plants and flowers and all who gave shoulders to cry on going all the way back to the beginning six months ago.

Thank you all a million times. We just can’t say it enough. Thank you.

Anyone who missed the guestbook at the Memorial or the folders and prayer cards can contact me (Mary) and I will do my very best to get them to you or bring the book so you can sign it if you wish.

Humbly yours,

Mary

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I let everyone know, Judy, my awesome mother in law and friend, passed away this evening, 5/11/2019. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family who adored her.

It has been made clear to us that it will no longer be necessary for Judy to contemplate shutting down her vent. Her body is likely to make the decision naturally in the very near future.
On a positive note, with her daughter and granddaughter flying in tomorrow, she’ll have seen all of her children this week, which is what she desperately wanted. I couldn’t be happier for her. The rest, we’ll deal with as it comes.
