Mom's 6 Mos. Living Became 9 Days

Donation protected
My name is Natalie and I am looking for financial assistance for me, my sister, and family to get through the death of our mom.

In 2015, our beloved mother, Judith Foard, then only 70 years young, was diagnosed with Stage 1 adenocarcinoma lung cancer.  We caught it early enough, and she was able to undergo steriotactic radiation to treat the three masses.

However, this past Christmas, after being admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, the doctors discovered that not only had the cancer returned with a vengeance, but there was now a new unidentifiable mass that was covering over 50% of her left lung, and she was now in Stage 4.  Mom’s fraility and the location of the mass prevented the healthcare team from being able to identify this cancer monster or provide any treatment options.

Their words to us were that they could provide palliative care and that we had, at most, 6 months with her. She was then discharged under the care of hospice to my sister's (Heather) home.  I made arrangements to temporarily relocate to Maryland to live with my sister to help care and support the time we had left with mom.

However, the day that she was discharged improperly from the hospital, with no medications, to my sister's home, she took an extreme turn for the worse.  We struggled that entire night and thought she would not make it through to the next day. I flew up the next morning and thankfully mom was able to be stabilized before I got there.

Mom's six grandchildren were informed, and they rallied around her. Although she was bedridden and had a hard time breathing, we had about 6 good days with her, and then suddenly, overnight, Mom took another turn for the worse. On January 17, 2018 around 5 pm she peacefully passed into heaven to be greeted by our brother, Tony, whom we lost 7 years ago from suicide, her mom, Mary, whom we lost 5 years ago, a well as her sister, her brother, and several other family members.

It has hit the family extremely hard that our 6 months only lasted for 9 days.  We were unable to fully plan for our mom’s memorial and get her final affairs in order. My sister is in full-time nursing school and has school loans, and I temporarily relocated to my sister's home to be with mom and I'm on hemodialysis three times a week, therefore, we are asking for any financial assistance to help us through this extremely difficult time. We want to give our mom a loving memorial service for her family and friends on Saturday, January 27th, pay for her grandaughter to travel from Florida to attend the service, and take care of her financial burdens left behind which includes several bills and a house with a $38,000 reverse mortgage and no other assets.  Mom lived on a social security income of only $900 a month.

We gratefully appreciate any help that our family, friends and friends of Judie can help us with.  Thank you so much for any help that you can provide, and we will keep you up to date with the memorial plans.

Blessings,
Heather Daniszewski, Natalie Brookhart & our family.
