This is a fundraiser for A Saugatuck woman that was rushed to Holland Hospital Saturday afternoon, July 29, after falling out of a boat on the Kalamazoo River and being struck by the boat’s propeller.
The woman, identified as Joy Lowe by the twin brother of the boat’s driver, suffered a severe injury to her left arm, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident happened on the Kalamazoo River between I-196 and the boat launch at 63rd Street and Riverside Road in Fennville. Police said the boat hit a wake that sent Lowe into the water, which led to her being struck by the propeller.
Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the call at 5:42 p.m. AMR ambulance, Saugatuck Township Fire and Rescue, and Allegan County Sheriff’s Marine Division responded to the scene.
Police said Lowe may require transfer to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids due to the severity of the injury.
