HelpJorge's kidney/liver transplant

Donation protected
This go fundme has been created on behalf of Jorge Fernandez and the family who will need the publics help with funding for medical expenses requiring he recieve a life saving combined kidney and liver transplant very soon.

Jorge has been waiting on the National kidney waitlist for 8 years placed on August of 2011.  Jorge awaits the gift of life.

He was born with Polycystic Kidney Disease which quickly robbed him from experiencing his 20's.

It has not been an easy lifestyle that he has or ever will adjust to after being put on dialysis at the age of 21.

Jorge is a fighter and will always be a warrior with dreams like anyone else. He hasn't lost hope that one day things will change around for good and he'd receive "the call" which most people recieve when a deceased cadaver organ is available for him.

As his situation couldn't get any worse, Jorge recieved some very unsettling news in 2015.

As a result of PKD, Jorge has developed multiple complications.

While waiting on the kidney transplant list all these years, UC Davis Medical Center diagnosed him with Hepatic Congenital Fibrosis in one of his ER visits to the hospital.  Something us as a family didn't see coming.

He would now need a life saving liver transplant too.

Polycystic Kidney Disease is a disease that robs you from your life, quickly damaging other internal organs to the body. Making it unbearable for him to live a healthy lifestyle.

With this came more sad news, UC Davis decided to delist him due to the fact they didn't take dual transplant cases like his at their center. The staff however, was amazing enough to transfer all his workup to Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, CA. There we seen many doctors for about 2 years, recieving care at Stanford.

After a workup in progress for two years with monthly appointments, and many transplant committee meetings held for him, news hit hard and fast bringing in the new year in 2018.

Stanford doctors were not comfortable in listing him for a dual transplant. Jorge had developed Pulmonary Hypertension with Ride Sided Heart Failure secondary to this terrible disease all while waiting, making him an unsuitable and high risk candidate for transplantation.

Hearing something like this in one of our last visits, "We don't know of we can really help you, but we will do our best" came to his mom, Jorge and I as an unpleasant feeling to the chest.

We lost hope for that while. We cried all our car ride home. We simply couldn't understand and grasp why they wouldn't want to save his life.

As a result, it was for me to research and find out where they would take our case. I decided to proceed with another transplant center to get a second opinion. We both couldn't lose hope, that we could get a second chance elsewhere.

Jorge is now being seen at the University of San Francisco (UCSF) for a combined liver and kidney transplant. However, we are in the nations LARGEST and LONGEST region wait times for organ transplants ( Region 5 ) according to(UNOS)United Network for Organ Sharing.

Jorge has to go in every 3 months to UCSF and get a heart catheter to check his pulmonary pressures to see if he will make it through this great surgery. All of his procedures are no longer covering him and the family would like to create this page to cover medical expenses. Funding will go to recovery efforts, transportation costs, hospital visits as well as medication expenses not covered by his health insurance.

That being said, we also need to create awareness through sharing and donating to this cause. It has been a very tough road for everyone in his family and myself. With everyone taking turns and doing hospital rounds, taking time off of work and school to visit him on occasions gets overwhelming and emotional, but we continue to fight for him every step of the way.

If you would like more information on how to be Jorge's match for the Liver or Kidney please visit http://ucdonor.org/#_ for kidney, or http://ucliverdonor.org/#_  for liver donation. Throughout his struggles and this debilitating battle in which he sometimes feels like giving up, Jorge hangs onto hope that one day he will receive the gift of life again and maybe meet Tom Hanks as he's mentioned to me lol.

A generous donation of any size and or sharing this page will be so helpful to the family and Jorge. Thank you very much for your time and God Bless!
