Michael's Japanese Educational Trip

Michael is a wonderful young man, the oldest of 6 children. Aged only 12, he is mature beyond his years, as every day he helps his hard working and devoted mum to look after their big family in Broome, Western Australia. Despite the pressures of his home life Michael has managed to do so well at school that he won a place in an extension program which sends students on an educational learning experience to Japan. Please help Michael's family to raise the cost of this important trip of a lifetime in 2018.
Here is the Broome Senior High School Year 7 Extension Program Coordinator's account of the 2017 trip:
"THE BROOME SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Year 7 Academic Extension class, along with its Year 10 mentors, travelled to Japan late last month as part of the 2017 Big History Project. The fast-paced Japanese Learning Experience was held over 10 days in Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto. Some of the tour highlights included a sumo match, Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Sky Tree, a baseball game (where we featured on national TV), Universal Studios, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, a school visit and the Hiroshima Peace Park and Museum.
Despite the technological wonders of Japan, it is our visit to Honkawa Elementary School every year that leaves the greatest impression on both teachers and students alike. Honkawa was operating in 1945 during the bombing of Hiroshima. This legacy inspired the students and citizens of Hiroshima to create a peace program where they invite groups from around the world to share Japanese culture and hospitality along with the school’s story and their message of peace.
The story of Hiroshima prompted us to initiate a peace program of our own to foster closer relations with Honkawa Elementary. Firstly we presented 1,000 paper cranes to the Hiroshima Peace Park, created by the students and staff of BSHS. For the second aspect, we sought collaboration with Nyamba Buru Yawuru, who were gracious enough to gift us two Lanji (boomerangs) created by Yawuru lawmen specially for the trip, in addition to hand-printed silk made by a local Yawuru artist. These cultural gifts were presented to Honkawa Elementary as a sign of respect and an offer of peace and friendship.
