JKruk's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow"

Donation protected
Once upon a time, a $25 booking in a vest pocket park in New York City, began Jonathan Kruk's career as a professional storyteller .  Now he's known as the Best Storyteller in the Hudson Valley.  Jonathan perpetuates the ancient art of the oral tradition by teaching through interactive tales in schools, libraries, camps and historic sites. Renowned for bringing Hudson River lore to life, my solo shows,  "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow "  and "A Christmas Carol", have become signature stories.  Thirty years and thousands of performances later, Jonathan is ready for broader horizons but has yet to find an agent, so we're making it happen on our own.

With this goal in mind, we launched this Go Fund Me campaign in November 2015, to help us complete the film version of my dramatic retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, filmed at the Old Dutch Church, produced and directed by Andrea Sadler. It was also created to help us produce and promote Jonathan's Legend performance on Broadway at the United Solo Theatre Festival.

We put out a call for support to raise Jonathan's theatrical and traditional style of storytelling to a new level and you responded with cheers of encouragement and financial support.  Your contributions fully raised our hearts with gratitude. With your generous support, we were able to hire an editor to edit the film, create a  trailer, do a promo photo shoot with Rudolf Van Dommele , pay for graphic artwork and ads, buy props and produce and promote Jonathan’s performances at The United Solo Theatre Festival.  We received rave reviews and even brought home an award for Best Satire!

The Graphic Artist, Larissa Killough , did an amazing job on the DVD Cover.  Jim Keyes did the sound editing and created a  haunting music score.  Maxwell Geoffrey, the colour correctionist, heightened all the beautiful hues and matched the cameras. Our editor, Alene Lynch, mixed it all and we were able to cover the cost of authoring and making 500 DVD’s.

The film's done, thanks to all of you! Woooohoooo!  We celebrated with two successful VIP screenings on Friday, November 3 at Tompkins Corners Cultural Center in Putnam Valley and on Thursday, November 16 at St Mary's Parish Hall, Cold Spring, NY we did a special screening birthday celebration.  Both screenings were a big success and we had standing room only on Nov 16! We also were able to submit it to many film festivals thanks to your support.

More exciting news is that our film was selected to be in the First Annual Sleepy Hollow International Film Festival .  It will be playing on Friday, October 11 at 1pm at the Warner Library, 121 North Broadway, Tarrytown, NY 10591   Click here to get your tickets.  Jonathan and I will be there for the Q & A after the film.

Now that the film is complete, we will keep the campaign going to reach our original goal as we hope to raise enough to pay our key crew members who took a leap of faith to get this pumpkin in the air with deferred payment.

Along with paying the key crew members, any further funds raised will be used to promote the film,  attract the attention of key theater producers, agents, and educators, as well as build a NYC fan base.  Further, by reaching new audiences in the city and beyond Jonathan will be able to devote more time to storytelling, self-publish his children's books, create a multi-media Hudson River lore project, a bedtime tale app, more CD recordings, more films such as "A Christmas Carol" DVD and a children’s television program.  "Fox & Crow Productions", which is co-founded by Andrea and Jonathan, was born to manifest these creative endeavours.  We actually have found an illustrator who wants to work with us so very excited about that.

People crave the authenticity of the story of the iconic headless horseman told live.  Every October since 2010, Jonathan has performed "Irving's Legend "  at the Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow, NY.  The forty plus shows sell out every year before the run opens and J's audience continues to grow each year.

Please join us in advancing classic tales, traditional storytelling and sustaining Jonathan's career as a  live performing artist.  People, especially children, crave well-told tales in this "device" dominated era.  Your generous support of "JKruk's Legend of Sleepy Hollow" will help us all live happily ever after.

Please visit Jonathan's website devoted to "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" which Andrea created.  She will continue to optimize it and begin work on the Fox and Crow website soon.  Andrea also created Jonathan's website, www.jonathankruk.com  for all programs and info.

Get a sneak preview of Jonathan's performance of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow "  at the Old Dutch Church, in the DVD Trailer.

Check out our music video released just for this campaign with the help and love of friends who also love creating. It's a spooky, campy Headless Horseman song performed by your favourite storyteller with ghouls and goblins dancing in the cemetery.
