Dear Family, Friends, and Art Supporters,

We hope that you enjoyed your glimpse of JKing Dance Company (JKDC) through years 2012 - 2015. What the video did not mention is where we are headed and where we really need your help. Help in sending us to Armenia and more!

JKDC received an invitation to perform as part of the Mainstage series at the HIGH FEST International Performing Arts Festival in Yerevan, Armenia! This will mark our first European performance, on Oct 4th, presenting the complete work of ‘LISTEn’. The following day we will partake in offering a workshop to the Yerevan community - An amazing opportunity for us to give back and share our work, as well as begin to connect with dance companies from all around the world!

The Festival graciously will fund all of our local expenses that include two meals a day, in country transportation, lodging, production costs and marketing. Our funding needs are for RT transportation to Armenia for 7 artists, additional rehearsals, and business materials to share at the Festival.

In addition we have been invited to perform on October 24th, our complete work of ‘Com.part.men.tal.Eyes’ at the Massachusetts Dance Festival. We are equally thrilled to have this opportunity to present our work in the New England area for the first time,  giving us a chance to cultivate audiences from another state. It is extra special for King, as the performance opens up the possibility of family and dear friends seeing her work for the first time. (Joyce grew up and lived in the New England area prior to coming to NYC)

For this project we have access to two cars but are in need of funding for gas, tolls RT to Massachusetts, with one night hotel for five artists, and per diem for two days for meals.

The most immediate expenses that are ahead of JKDC would be our travel to Armenia and Massachusetts- including per diem, performance pay and studio rental fees.

On May 6th and 7th we  return for our 5th Season at The Ailey Citigroup Theater. Our plan is to again offer young artists an opportunity to perform on this professional stage, by opening our shows as we did for our 2015 May show.

Artistic Director, Joyce King invited ten teenage dancers, the opportunity to perform an excerpt of JKDC's repertory in May at The Ailey Citigroup Theater. This was a fulfilling opportunity for JKDC members to share their personal experiences and guidance with these young dancers in rehearsal - opening up an opportunity for their questions on professional experiences, as well as their role within the choreographic work.

Throughout the year, we continue toward the development of new repertory.   ‘Per.cept.Shun’, a  work - in - progress was showcased in early May, followed by a talk back with our audiences. Their input inspires our process,  as we  build toward the premiere of this work.

Our research for ‘Thew the Fog’ - four choreographic segments united by the topic of mental illness is ongoing.  We are humbled over the people we have met who have been willing to sit and talk with us about this personal topic . . .

We have had a busy year, and are committed to continue this momentum of growth. The prospect of raising enough funds to entirely support all these amazing opportunities ahead of us is daunting. BUT We do know that with your contribution, JKDC will achieve our goals of performing Internationally and beyond the tri- state area;  expand our repertory  and continue  our mission to offer dancers an opportunity to perform on a professional NYC stage!

I believe that we begin as creators, with an imagination that can expand far beyond the walls of society’s rules, if given the environment to explore our uniqueness. As a child we are all so filled with curiosity. I have witnessed though, the need becoming more apparent into the teen years to offer an outlet to keep this part alive within them.  As I continue my personal journey through adulthood, the craving to build upon and be a part of something outside and larger than myself, becomes even stronger.

Please support JKDC in our mission to continue to offer a creative outlet for these dancers. Dancers that so often forgo pay to present their art. It is our deep passion to express ourselves through movement, to make a difference in others lives, that motivates us to do so. Often times we are forced to leave our dream behind due to the lack of funds to support ourselves.

JKDC has witnessed how the joy of dance changes lives, bringing a strong sense of self and purpose to so many.

Help us keep that alive. Together we can continue to change lives and offer the benefit of dance.

Through your contribution of $5, $10, $20 we will be able to continue to make dreams come true!

Thank you from all of us at JKing Dance Company, Joyce King, Danelle Herran, Danielle Mondi, Ayumi Uchida, Constance Nicolas Vellozzi, Brittany Posas, Emily Jo Haenny, and Jaclyn Rea
