Help #1VoiceAgainstHate ring louder!

In 2017 our documentary, Jewel’s Catch One, was met with global acclaim in the film festival circuit and inspired audiences around the world. Today the producers of this award-winning film have found opportunities from several distributors to take this film to mainstream audiences and need your support to save this piece of exclusive history! Mainstream distribution of this film is important because its voice against racism, homophobia, and cultural barriers teaches us all how one person can make a difference in this world.

Covering 42 years, this story of Jewel Thais-Williams and her legendary Catch One night-club celebrates the activism, celebrities and music that made The Catch the place to be and be seen!  Because this story covers four decades of music from the 70’s to the present, we need your help to keep the integrity of the original film and celebrity stories (exclusive to our film) by retaining the recently reduced music licenses for the major label songs in the film.

To achieve this, finishing costs are required to secure the original music licenses for mainstream distribution.  We have negotiated and locked the cost of these licenses as of September 1st, 2017 at $3000 dollars for each song (master and publishing sides). This was a huge milestone for our team! We have held fundraisers to lock in some of the funds already! We still have $21,000 to go (LESS WITH THE HELP OF THIS GOFUNDME DRIVE).  With your support we can get this film to mainstream audiences with the intended music that was meaningful to the times and became anthems to many communities.

One example of important music from the film is Evenly “Champagne” King’s “Shame. During the AIDS Crisis, “Shame” became an anthem for people in the LGBT community and their loved ones who were inflicted with HIV/AIDS and were “shamed” by their families, friends, and co-workers.

Our film also has exclusive interviews with artists whose music is celebrated with stories of their own Catch One experiences: Thelma Houston, Thea Austin, Bonnie Pointer, Evelyn “Champagne” King plus a special appearance by Madonna at Catch One.

Become a part of saving history on this seven-year project by supporting our music licenses fund for our 12 record label songs. This film’s uniqueness is reinforced by several exclusive celebrity and political figure interviews that lend an unique, historical perspective which has never before been seen in one film: Sharon Stone, Thelma Houston, Representative Maxine Waters, Sandra Bernhard, Thea Austin, Madonna, Bonnie Pointer, Evelyn “Champagne” King – all of whom appear in the film.

We are excited that we have an opportunity to bring this important four decades of history to mainstream audiences! We appreciate your consideration to join us in preserving this critical work. #SaveHistory #BeInspired #Disco #loveislove

JEWEL'S CATCH ONE celebrates the legacy of a legendary Los Angeles nightclub, Catch One, and the life-changing impact its owner, Jewel Thais-Williams, had on her community by breaking down racial and cultural barriers and building the oldest black-owned disco in America. Jewel’s story celebrates music, fashion, celebrities, and activism that helped changed the course of our country.

One of the original safe spaces for disenfranchised communities, The Catch also served as a refuge for many during the AIDS crisis. As her club grew to become known as the unofficial “Studio 54 of the West Coast,” Jewel became a national model for how to fight discrimination and serve the less fortunate as she fought tirelessly against racism, homophobia, and hate for over four decades.

Jewel built organizations such as The MINORITY AIDS PROJECT and RUE’s HOUSE (First shelter for women with AIDS and their children) and later in life started her own non-profit health clinic next door to the club called The Village Health Foundation, that she still works at today. #legacy

This documentary is packed with 40 years of music, untold history and exclusive interviews with celebrities, politicians, and people who were touched by Jewel's community activism and vision to make Los Angeles and our world a better place for everyone.

Help us #SAVEHISTORY and celebrate this incredible inspirational story to help educate our future. Any donation is gratefully accepted! Thank you for your support!

I absolutely loved the documentary. The quiet passion and commitment of Jewel is a testament of her veracity and determination against the "isms" that challenged her every step of the way. She is my "Shero."
