Greetings everyone! My name is Teresa Cuevas and I am the Artistic Director of the IndoRican Multicultural Dance Project. We are a non profit dance company, dedicated to celebrating cultural diversity of New York City and its inhabitants, and in doing so, we encourage individuals to take a stand on events happening around them. We also believe that education is truly the key for worldly accord. The IndoRican Multicultural Dance Project proudly caters to educating all children- including those with special needs, utilizing space, colors, patterns, rhythms and expressive choreography. Our concerts are family oriented, and celebrate multiple backgrounds. Some of our pieces are focused towards our younger audiences captivating a childs imagination, while other mature pieces focus on awareness of our community, messages of individuality, and the acceptance of human needs.
I am raising money for my dance company. We have a variety of pieces in our repertoire, but I have chosen to focus on a 40 minute piece entitled Taino Reign. Taino Reign is the creation legend of the First Nations people of Puerto Rico. It depicts their essence, lifelines and strength as individuals, and as a whole concerning customary activities, and the rise of colonization on the island.
The money raised will be utilized for rehearsal space rental, stipends for dancers, videographer, sound engineer, crew, concert space, lighting designer, props, travel expenses and hotel accommodations. We will need a large portion of the funds by September 2018.
The IndoRican Multicultural Dance Project has an array of international and New York City based dancers. We strongly believe in Taino Reign- not only because it was well received in 2015, but it has a very clear message to our audience. It's because of the social and political climate that we find ourselves in presently, we believe it's absolutely imperative to perform this piece as many places as we can- and we are starting at the grassroots level. We have begun lecture/demonstrations of this piece at schools in April, 2017. It is extremely important for children to see diversity, messages of hope, love, compassion, and communities working together onstage. We have collaborated with other artists in June 2017. When we are in concert, we raise funds for different organizations such as the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society. We have also been invited to perform Taino Reign at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC, as well as New York City for the Taino Festival, as well as a small grant funded performance in 2018.
My dancers and I will be incredibly grateful, appreciative, thankful and blessed with the funds we receive from this campaign. We would use the funds with caution and wisdom, and bring dance into schools that need performance art. Please feel free to visit our website for further details about our company at www.indoricandance.com.
