The Majlis As-Shura (Islamic Leadership Council) of NY is raising funds for the families of the two Imams (Maulama Akonjee and Thara Uddin) shot dead in Queens, NY on their return home after noon prayers at their mosque Masjid AlFuqan.
Community members have expressed their concerns that this violence in their neighborhood and directed towards the Muslim community at large is a direc t result of recent political rhetoric that has incited hate speech and violence.
Two families have lost their father, husband, brother, uncle, son and a whole community has lost two beloved Imams dedicated to serving their community. As you pray for this family and pressure for justice, also remember that the two families are in true need of financial support during this horrible time.  Funeral expenses, rent, food, clothing, utilities, and other expenses still need to be paid for over the forseeable future.
The money collected will be divided equally between the families of Imam Maulama Akonjee and Imam Thara Uddin. There is an initial donation of $10,000 by the Islamic Leadership Council (Majlis As-Shura).
As Muslims, we believe that when we give charity, our reward is from Allah.  The Muslim community needs to stand together against hate, and the families' grief will be assuaged by knowing that their material needs are taken care of. While Allah is the ultimate planner, no one is prepared for this, and if you can put yourself in the position of these families and donate $50 or $500  (or whatever amount fits your budget) dollars, this will go to the wives, sons and daughters to help them go from day to day, as they work through their grief.

May Allah bless us all and accept our good deeds.

Assalamu Alaikum all,
After sharing with the GoFundMe management team that at a certain point the collected amount rose to over $83K, and trying to understand the reason why the amount dropped down to over $82K, they sent us the response below.
"I'm afraid I am having a hard time seeing your campaign's Total Goal amount at $84,000. Right now, I see that you have raised $82,615 from 723 donors. Was there a specific donation that you are no longer seeing within your account?

Keep in mind, GoFundMe automatically deducts a 5% fee from each donation you receive. In addition, our payment processor WePay charges 2.9% + $0.30 per donation. In total, you will be charged 7.9% + $0.30 per donation.

Your GoFundMe account reflects the donations before fees, while WePay displays your balance after all fees have been deducted. For your reference, I've included a breakdown of your funds raised, with the fees deducted below:

Total Online Raised $82,615.00
Total Offline Raised $0.00
Total Amount Raised $82,615.00
GoFundMe (5%) $4,130.75
WePay Fees (2.9% + .30) $2,612.18
------------------------------------------
Total Fees $6,742.93
Balance Available $75,872.07

Can you please let me know if there was a specific donation that you are no longer seeing, Majlis?

Thank you,"

As you see we fell short from our target and therefore we still would like to ask you to share the fundraising with your networks.

Thank you again and Jazakum Allahu Khairan,

Assalamu Alaikum All,
Thank you all so much for the support you have provided to the families of our beloved Imams Maulana Akonjee and Thara Uddin. People across faith, color, gender, ethnic and political backgrounds have contributed to this altruistic campaign. We humbly thank you all and pray for you all. May Allah compensate you all with his love, satisfaction, guidance and peace.
We are now in the process of withdrawing the available amount in order to hand it to the beneficiaries. We created a bank account specific to this campaign. We added Majlis's Treasurer of the Cooperation, Imam Muhammad Abdul Azeem Khan to the account as a beneficiary in accordance with the rules of GoFundMe and with their help. He will withdraw the amount which is so far over $82K, as he is the only one allowed to do so in his capacity as Majlis's financial administrator/officer. He will then transfer the amount to the newly created bank account. The Majlis will write checks to the two families with the collected amount after subtracting fees and expenses if there are any. As you might have noticed, the amount dropped down on GoFundMe's site with about $2K. We are assuming that this is what the site charges as fees. We will investigate the change and update you all insha'Allah.
Our best wishes and Jazakum Allahu Khairan

Your community came to mind again while I was on retreat this weekend. A small amount, but it comes with prayers and support from this local Catholic!

Please help this important cause. Two men are killed out of hate and leave behind 10 dependents. Give what you can and share as widely as you can.
