Ikes Creek Recording a New Album!

Ikes Creek is the culmination of a musical journey 35 years in the making.  I am bringing everything I've learned into this project, not only playing three different instruments but writing every song, expressing every emotion and thought through it.  I am fortunate to have great people willing to play this music with me and making it their own.  I am having more fun leading my own band than I ever have in any other project.

I was born on a mountain in Northern Idaho, in a house my dad built with his own hands; hands which caught me when I was born as there was no doctor around.  Our land was near a town named Elk River and to get there, you had to drive or walk an old logging road that had multiple streams running along it.  One of those creeks was called Ikes Creek and I thought the name was a great one.

Music is the world to me - the reason I get up in the morning and what I'm thinking about when I go to bed. Sometimes I wake up with a fully formed song in my head!  I have a tune constantly in my head and am always humming all day, every day.  I'm glad it's a passion because otherwise it might drive me crazy.

For me, I have to get out what's in my soul.  It's not a choice or a question but an imperative.  I have so much to say and my music allows me to put these thoughts and feelings out into the world where they can live further on their own.  If I couldn't make my own music, I would probably be a carpenter or something.

Our music makes me think of going home, first; having a place to call your own and being free and at peace there.  It also reminds me of cool, fresh water and pure mountain air, something of which runs through all the songs I've been writing for this band.  The music we play really represents being in touch with your roots and being inspired by the people and place surrounding you.

I believe the music of Ikes Creek speaks to something universal in all of us.  Love, redemption, empathy, nature: they're all intertwined and when we are true to ourselves, we almost always come back to the basics.  I mean, why does humanity keep writing love songs?  Because they represent the truth in us.  Thank you for being a part of finding that truth by investing in our passion!
