Ian Miller is 81 years old, and a world champion! Ian is the current holder of the World Masters Championship for the Scottish Highland Games, having won the event in Inverness in 2014.

The former Army Sergeant and karate black belt is determined to defend his crown however is struggling to raise the funds to cover his expenses and has even been applying for jobs to help cover his costs.

Having applied for part-time jobs such as a bus driver and a shop assistant, only to be told he is too old, he is running out of options and time.

“I was probably fighting a losing battle when applying for the jobs. I rang up for the part-time driving job and they immediately asked how old I was and when I said I was 80, they seemed sceptical. I told them I lift heavy weights but they still said ‘no, sorry’. If you try to protest you’re not going to get the job anyway so it is very difficult and has left me with very few options now."

Ian has a deadline of May to raise the funds to defend his title and should he be successful will head to St Louis. in September.
