Flood Left us Homeless Help

December 7th around 7:45am I was putting my kids Akira and Vission on the bus. I went inside to get ready to meet my fellow board member from Food by Design to work on a 2016 Strategic Plan and designing a brochure. As I was busy cleaning the house and getting ready to leave I noticed that the toilets had filled with sewage and that the bath tub had backed up brimming to the rim with a dark murky water. I called my property managers and told them what was happening. Within 35 minutes my entire house was flowing at a steady pace of two to three gallons a minute of raw sewage coming from the two toilets, one in my room, and the one next to the kid’s room with the bath tub in it poring forth another one to two a gallons a minute. When I was standing in it I could see it flowing above my ankle bone as if I was standing in a shallow stream.

I know you know the rest of this story anything that was touched by sewage has to be ripped out, thrown away, and rebuilt. We are lucky it will only take 4 to 6 weeks for them to do that and we can get back into our home of almost 8 years! My daughter asked me today if we were going to have every one come stay with us for Christmas. She asked about her Dad, Grandpa and Grand Ma Lori, Grandma Bee, Aunt Jen, Jazzy, and Bret? Then she asked will we have Christmas at our house? What about Christmas Moring? I told her of course we would but his year we would just be going to visit our friends and family instead of them coming to stay with us.

This Christmas will not be the same. The kids are accustomed to waking to a living room full of presents surrounded by all the people they love and friends who visit throughout the day. I know in my heart that Christmas is about the spirit of giving and being thankful for having those you love close to you. It is not about the presents or the holiday dinners those things are just the elements that bring us together. It is about love and all the blessings we have in our lives.

We are asking you to donate so that we can afford to stay with our family and friends this Holiday Season while we wait for the repairs to be finished in 4 to 6 weeks. Also to cover the expenses we are enduring on a single income to respond to the upfront costs of the Pod, hotel, food and the relocation of my family. It cost $100 a night for Hotels and $75 to $100 for food for the day. Those are just the basic needs. Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a happy Holiday.
