Heart Surgery for Jeremiah
Had it not been for his dad, Jeremy an RN, who was with him at the time giving him CPR until the paramedics arrived, this story would be different. The paramedics continued CPR and shocked him with a defibulator 3 times until he started to breathe on his own. He was then taken to the hospital.
Jeremiah is now recovering and undergoing testing at CHOC. During the discovery doctors said that he has 2 congenital conditions. WPW (Wolfe-Parkinsons White) Syndrome and Non-impaction cardiomyopathy. Both not good.
Jeremiah will undergo an intense surgery to have a defibulator implanted inside him; (that is the thing that shocks you while people yell "clear!") this will restart his heart when he has future heart attacks.
All of this, of course, is very costly. Jeremiah's dad has taken a leave from work to be with him during this time, and he is the sole provider for the family. In times like this people always ask how they can help...well, this is a biggie - money.

Thank you! Oh, and get CPR certified!
We met with his Cardiologist Dr. McCanta and the report was as expected. Jeremiah is stable and taking to the ICD as best as his body can. We were told that Jeremiah's case is extremely rare... Where his WPW's are is atypical. The one next to the AV Node is seen more often. However, the WPW in the lower portion of the left ventricle is rare and they have not seen a case where that WPW coupled with his cardiomyopathy in the left ventricle had cause an arrest while the body was at rest. You see, they typical arrest happens when a person is active, getting the heart rate up etc. But Jeremiah's heart does what it wants to. While the normal firing process happens his heart will send arrhythmia's at any given moment. This is why he needed the ICD (Defibrillator) installed. Dr. McCanta informed us that it is possible that surgery can be done again and successful at that. Perhaps 4-6 months or a year. But in the near future. He is getting surgeons and specialists from across the country on board and they all want to know more about my son...
The cardiomyopathy issue is another hindrance though. You see, due to him not being diagnosed at birth the WPW did its own thing over time and caused the heart to work harder, thus causing the heart muscle in the left ventricle to grow and harden. Due to that myopathy his heart does not pump equally, the muscle is not as effective. Now Jeremiah will have to be on medications for the rest of his life to help the heart out and to keep the rhythm more steady.
With all of this said, yes I do recognize the doctors and specialists. But more so, I recognize the great Physician, Jesus Christ. I believe that God has healed my son and that he will never have another cardiac arrest. As a matter of fact I believe my son will help others someday with heart problems. The kid was infatuated with open heart surgeries on You Tube at the age of 4. He would ask me to search for them and he would watch and watch. God has a plan regardless and it will be a great one.
God is good and God has blessed us with so many friends and family who love and care for my son. Your prayers and continued support go farther than you would ever know.
To God be the glory!

Many follow up appointments are to come starting tomorrow. Jeremiah will need physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and assessments from the school as to where he will need help when integrating back in to school life. Jeremiah does have some deficits that will need to be worked out so we will be busy for the next few weeks. Good thing I am here to help him make a smooth transition. Yes, it will be challenging on some ends but God continues supplying our needs. So many of you have blessed us and made this possible for the family to be together for Jeremiah.
Folks it has been 17 days since all five of us have been together under our roof. We are the Verhines, 5 strong. We are firm in our faith and continue to be changed every day. We know the journey continues and this is just another chapter that is going to bring even more greatness and life changing experiences.
God bless each one of you. We love you and thank God for you continually.
Jeremiah is still in surgery. They are working their way through the heart trying to locate the abnormal conduction. They do not expect completion to be around 6-7pm.
Talk about trying your faith. As a matter of fact while I was on the phone with the RN who is involved in the case, mid sentence he says, oh hold on I have to go shock him. I was like, uh, wha? But in my heart I'm like aching.
It is all in Gods hands. He is still under, stable, and in procedure. He is having a conversation with Jesus while they do their work. Glory be to God. I declare victory and total healing in Jesus name.
Thank you all for your continued support and prayers.
I am so proud of you. You are indeed a spiritual leader of your family. We are praying for Jeremiah and your family. Keep holding on to the Lord because He is the source of strength and comfort.
