HikingUpward.com is a community hiking site founded in 2000 that is completely free to use and maintained entirely on a volunteer basis by a small group of dedicated hikers.
Over the years the site has grown significantly, and currently provides free hiking information to over 10,000 hikers a day. Along with that increased traffic the site has become considerably more expensive to run.
