for Clarendon Hills Historical Society
The Clarendon Hills Historical Society is dedicated to protecting and preserving the history of the Village of Clarendon Hills. We will accomplish this through the preservation, archiving and display of an artifact collection, in order to share the amazing history of the village and it's residents.

Heritage Hall will be a historically-themed educational facility and meeting place. It will be located in an existing historic village building, which was constructed to be and served for many years as the operations hub of the village's water distribution system.

Heritage Hall will serve as the home of the Clarendon Hills Historical Society. It will allow us to maintain a permanent venue and public display of artifacts and documents, including many unique items recovered from the Middaugh Mansion which was on the National Register of Historic Places. It will be an attractive meeting space for small groups (30-40) of Clarendon Hills' charitable educational and social organizations, as well as similar organizations from adjacent areas.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise funds to complete Phase One of our renovation plan. This phase was started with our "First 25" campaign and work to date included: Interior demo, a new slab floor, water hook-up, roofing, interior painting and masonry work, totaling $31,386.00.  We have raised an additional $25,000.00 dollars to start construction on a bathroom soon! Our goal is to raise $100,000 to complete the interior and exterior renovations. We have a two-year goal for the renovations. Once complete we can start welcoming the public to learn about our history!

Football, Funding & Food- November 22, 2015 11:30 am at Scapa's Italian Restaurant

The Clarendon Hills Historical Society suffered a devastating arson fire at their offices and future museum, "Heritage Hall" on August 17, 2015. As someone who has been very involved with the efforts of the Society over the years since they signed the lease in 2005, it was heart wrenching to open the door to the acrid smell of smoke, black soot and fire damage.

We are especially disheartened because we were just reaching our goal of installing a bathroom, when this occurred. In addition, over the years, we have made significant progress on our goals for the Historical Society and for Heritage Hall. The Society has raised money and renovated the inside of the building including demolition of pipes and equipment in the floors and walls, we have replaced and added windows, the pits in the floor were filled in and a new slab floor was poured. The east wall, which was plywood needed to be replaced with masonry. Next the Society brought in a water service, roughed in plumbing, upgraded the electrical, installed a new roof and unit heater and painted.

Since moving into 50 Sheridan Avenue, the Society has been able to consolidate artifacts and records that were being stored in various storage facilities. We were then open to accepting pieces of our past, that were being stored in people's basements and homes, before they were lost or destroyed to future generations.

This building has been and will continue to be very important to the Society in providing for our community. We will continue our fundraising to complete the space and open it up to the public. But, for now we need to raise money to cover our out of pocket expenses associated with this tragic set of circumstances.

I hope to see you at our fundraiser, we are all ready to have some fun, watch some football and raise some funds!

Heritage Hall Update

First and foremost we at the Clarendon Hills Historical Society wish to thank all of the people who expressed their sympathies and heartfelt offer of help to our organization after hearing the news of the arson fire at Heritage Hall.

It is a slow process forward as we assess the damage, and try and get back as soon as possible to where we were before the fire took place.

While we work to restore the damage to what we have already done in Heritage Hall, we will continue our efforts of fundraising to complete the space into a museum and meeting place for the community.

The Daisy drawing that was scheduled for September 5th at Heritage Hall has been cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday, September 19th at 6:00 pm at the Family Fun Fest at Prospect Park.

Tickets are still available at downtown stores, by contacting us on our Facebook Page or at the Family Fun Fest from 3:30 pm-6:30 pm. Just look for our table.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and concern!

It is with great sadness that I must report a fire took place at Heritage Hall, 50 Sheridan Avenue, which was discovered Tuesday morning, August 18th. Our board member was the first to arrive for a meeting and unlocked the door to the scene.

Luckily no one was hurt, but there is considerable damage to the building and some of the contents. There is extensive smoke damage too.

The Fire and Police Department have determined the cause to be arson and they have an ongoing investigation and a strong lead.

Although we are still appraising the damages, initial estimates could reach $100,000 dollars.

Insurance will hopefully help us get back on our feet to a pre-fire state, but this sad event has set us back on our fundraising goals for the renovation of the building into a museum and offices of the Clarendon Hills Historical Society.

A completed up and running facility is also a great deterrent to crime and keeps our neighborhoods safe.

Please consider a contribution to our fund to help us transform our building into Heritage Hall for future generations to enjoy.

We will keep you posted. Thank you for all who contacted us with words of caring and support.
