As is too often the case, good people don't always get good lives...

An Intro :

Almost 18 years ago, a US Air Force Mom and her son founded the Homefront Hugs Foundation after 9/11 to bring everyone together and support our troops, vets and military families as they are one too. They get the sacrifices.

Alessandra has volunteered her time from their home (which is headquarters for the charity too) helping homeless vets, military families, deployed and hospitalized vets with no support. Homefront Hugs assists with disaster and trauma relief, and focuses on critical suicide prevention and crisis intervention. They don’t let us forget that every day, 24 troops and vets take their lives and are working hard to get the Healing Canines Bill passes by Congress, politics aside.
Although disabled from a car accident decades ago, Alessandra worked part time as a media consultant to physicians and attorneys before she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She has never wanted any pay for running Homefront Hugs .

HARDSHIP

Alessandra just had  lung cancer surgery  ago at Dana Farber Institute in Boston and is still recovering before more scans and treatment are done.
Then last week her service dog of 12 years died. Maggie was the one who found her cancer. This has been a tough holiday for Alessandra and her son.

Fact: Lung cancer is the biggest killer of men and women in the United States.  Alessandra did not want to be another statistic when she found out and her biggest worry was her son in college. Ed had already lost his Dad, a USAF pilot who flew A-10s, to brain cancers after serving 25 years. Ed was just now starting his own dreams on scholarship and loans when his mother was diagnosed with cancer.

FINANCIAL HARDSHIP

Because of her lung cancer , Alessandra has had to stop her paid work to focus on fighting for her health, her life.
She still runs Homefront Hugs as she did even from her hospital bed in Boston, even now on tougher days. Her mentor is Chief Justice Ginsburg who is facing the same lung cancer with equal courage and spunk.
Alessandra finds solace/strength in being there for others, working hardest on suicide prevention, not just with vets but teens as well. Everyone wins when Alessandra gets involved with her counseling background and advocacy.

It’s time to have her back. Let’s come together to help her and her son now who is her hero.

WHAT IS NEEDED

Alessandra is 3 months behind on the mortgage for their small family home  ($2193.13 per month plus late fees) and facing foreclosure now if funds are not raised by January 10th .

Whatever you can contribute will go a long way to afford Alessandra a little breathing room to heal and get back on her feet, to get caught up . Her son is home now for Christmas break thanks to Delta  and they are praying they won’t be losing their home in the middle of a cold Michigan winter.

Let’s try to get the minimum
needed raised to help her catch up and start fresh for 2019. I have changed the minimum needed per Alessandra’s request as she was able to sell some furniture to make some headway. She is so grateful for any help for her and her son.
If you cannot help, please share this using the easy links here.  Maybe even help raise funds and share this need.

We can show Alessandra and her son that they are not forgotten as they do for so many every day.
It’s what this season is about and beginning the New Year paying it forward is all about. 34677760_1546100889193587_r.jpeg

Thank you very much.

Happy New Year ! Bonne Année!

Thank you so much for assistance that has come in - Alessandra has told me the help that has come in so far has given hope they might save their home. But we have to raise the rest by January 9th. Please share friends - Alessandra and her son were gifted a new golden retriever to train as a therapy dog for our vets and for Alessandra as she battles cancer. This has helped keep spirits up but this is another reason they don’t need to lose their one home out of which they run Homefront Hugs. This Air Force Family has not taken in any compensation for 18 years. I hope donations flow in for their charity on their website and to save their home . It’s time Alessandra had some income for all the work she does as so many CEOs do . Not many are battling cancer either . Please accept my sincere thanks for caring even if you just share this emergency appeal . That matters too as I know so many of you believe in this charity and this family personally for all they do from their hearts .

With gratitude,
Anne

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year 2019 as it is almost here and share that we have lowered the amount needed to save the home of Alessandra and Ed from foreclosure and the headquarters for Homefront Hugs Foundation - one and the same. Alessandra continues to work tirelessly for our hurting veterans and families over the holiday with her son Ed even as she continues cancer care and treatment. I really hope we can raise these funds as time is critical now. Please share / share with everyone you know - as this Air Force Family has sacrificed so much and helps so many still today with all of us as volunteers and supporters. Together we make a difference and we can do this now to help this deserving family too .

I shared this fundraiser with Alessandra finally and told her not to lose hope. We can accomplish this .
If you can share this fundraiser and encourage others to help even with a small donation, that would be excellent. I know If we help this hurting family - they will pay it forward because that is who they are. Thank you so much for any help at this busy time of year .
