Help Wes Foster Fight Cancer!

Donation protected
Wes Foster is a loving husband and father with a heart big enough to call everyone family. He was a respected art teacher at Faith Middle School in Fort Benning, GA. He has 2 wonderful kids and a new grandson as of January. Wes and Ti have always put others before themselves. Ti has been the rock during this journey. She has made tough decisions in regards to her husband while maintaining a home and family. Ti has been managing the workload for both of them, making sure money lasts to keep food on the table and lights on in the house. The Foster family has opened their home to those in need for both food and shelter. Now we are asking you to open your wallets to help Wes fight cancer.

Their Story from Ti Foster (Wife)

In October 2015, suffering from blinding headaches for about 4 weeks, Wes finally went to see a doctor. We were urged to rush to the ER because the symptoms were more than your typical headaches.  A CT scan later determined there was a tumor on his brain and a couple weeks after, we received the devastating news that it was a grade 4 Glioblastoma -A fast growing cancerous tumor on the brain.

Wes was able to have 80% of the tumor removed from his brain at Duke Hospital then returned home to Columbus to undergo radiation and chemo treatments that started in January. In between the debilitating cancer treatments, he suffered other injuries to his spine from a fall and had to undergo emergency surgery for digestive infections. He has also suffered several seizures for which he is now on medication for.

The cancer, other health issues that developed, and chemo has affected Wes in so many ways. His short-term memory loss has been impacted and because of the extensive hospital stays this past year, he lost his ability to walk.

Early during his treatments, his Oncologist encouraged Wes to retire from teaching because he didn’t believe he would be able to keep up with the rigors and demands of teaching. This was devastating news for our family as Wes was the sole provider for our family. Wes had only been working for DOD schools for less than 5 years, he wasn’t qualified for retirement benefits, nor for any disability benefits. He was, however, qualified for medical retirement at 60% of his teacher’s pay. This benefit will significantly lower every year.

Our family had managed to save some funds for Rainy Days/Emergency. At the beginning of this harrowing journey, we didn’t expect to be at this point financially. We managed to go through our emergency funds to pay for living expenses while we tried to pay for some of the medical bills. At this point, we are living on our savings and totally ignoring the medical bills that we can no longer pay.

I’m now Wes’ sole caretaker – taking him to appointments, administering meds, and his total care. My sister has moved in with me to help with caring for my son and to help alleviate the financial burdens we have. Tumua (daughter) continues to be my helper, as caring for her father is a round-the-clock job.

Wes just completed round 6 of chemo. We were told he needed a year of chemo, but future treatments are on hold while he prepares to head to Duke for another appointment. His local oncologist gave us results of the most recent MRI, which showed that the cancer has started back up around the area from his first surgery. His appointment at Duke next week would determine if he qualifies for a clinical trial or something else.

Again, we are asking for your help. The Foster family always gave selflessly and never expected anything in return. This money would help ease the burden that comes from medical bills and your daily needs. Anything you gave give would be appreciated.
