Supporting Tamara's Terminal Cancer

How life changes so quickly – on a dime, as the saying goes. Barely one year ago this month, our beautiful and sweet wife/daughter/best friend, Tamara Carter’s life was drastically changed forever.

In April 2017, Tamara had her right kidney removed due to the 3 to 3.5-inch cancerous tumor with the diagnosis of Stage 3 Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC), an extremely aggressive cancer with little to no treatment options. With hopes at the time her cancer was caught before metastasizing, she did all the required CT scans while recovering from surgery and slowly getting back to work. But, RCC had other plans. Plans to take her from us all too soon.

And in October 2017, all our lives stopped when her diagnosis progressed. Her cancer was now detected and progressed to her lungs, liver, and spine – thus making it Stage 4 cancer.

With very limited treatment options, her oncologist suggested enrolling into a clinical drug trial to see if it would help slow down RCC’s progress. But unfortunately, after only 4 treatments her follow-up CT scan showed 50% growth of her cancer in 9 weeks and new metastatic cancer cells in her bone and lymph nodes.

This new prognosis has given her 18 months to live.

And leaves us with limited options for her care and treatment:

(1)    Employ medical avenues to alleviate her pain in order for her to gain some quality of life. She has been through the first round of grueling radiation and is now on chemotherapy. Both have taken a toll on her body;

(2)    If we can attain even a short window of pain easement, we would like to grant a few personal requests of travel and memory making.

As a family we are all struggling. But as her husband, I am trying to come to grips with losing my best friend and soul mate of 17 years. A woman whom I’ve loved since the moment I met her and knew she was meant for me. I’ll never meet another woman as caring, gracious and most importantly a sense of humor that could always bring me to tears with laughter. My tears are now filled with sadness as I realize I will never grow old with this beautiful woman.  A woman who always gave everything she had to make someone feel welcome and cared for. I love her so much and writing this has been extremely difficult.

Her parents, Wayne and Regina Ebaugh are trying to deal with their deepest fear coming true – the unimaginable loss of their only child…their delightful, precious daughter. Always proud of her, they enjoyed her as a bright, fun, and caring child who always brought laughter and joy to their lives. A mother and fathers love is unlike anything and the breach she will leave is indelible and impossible to fill.

In February 2018, Tamara had to quit a job she loved to solely focus on her health. Unfortunately, we must wait the 5-month timeframe for her disability to kick in. Therefore, we are asking for help in not only tackling her mounting medical bills she has accumulated to date, but to help with granting some final wishes.

Any amount given is more than appreciated and means everything to us.

Thank you for your time and please, keep our beloved Tamara in your prayers as she struggles with all aspects of this devastating disease.

Thank you,

Tom Carter & Wayne and Regina Ebaugh
