Help Super-Trey fight leukemia

Meet Trey.  This was Trey not long ago. Happy, Healthy, vibrant, full of life, and ALWAYS smiling.  Trey loves ANYTHING superhero. He loves playing with his brother and sister. He's a momma's boy through and through. He a cuddler and snuggler.

Trey is 5 years old.

This picture was taken on April 21st, 2016.  Pictured here is his dad Theron (who is active with Trey's schooling and a real hands on dad!)

Let's begin this story were it all started. In early April, mom and dad (Heather and Theron) began noticing Trey had some muscle weakness. Nothing major. He began tripping while walking and as time progressed, he became too weak to jump on the trampoline. They also noticed when they picked him up (with their arms around Trey's waist) he would say "ouch." Heather is not the type of mother who rushes her children into the doctors office for every sniffle, but something didn't sit right with her. She made an appointment with his pediatrician on April 19th. They did some lab work to check for signs of arthritis and/or inflammation.  On April 21st, she got a call stating he was iron deficiant and they had called in some iron pills to the pharmacy.

On April 22nd Heather was at the pharmacy with her kids picking up the iron precription when her cell phone rang.
"Hello"
"Hi Heather. We got further results back  from Trey's blood work. Some of the cells showed up atypical. Are you in town?"
"Yes."
"Can you make it up to the children hospital within 20-40 minutes?"
"What does that mean? What do atypical cells mean?"
"It could be somthing in his bone marrow."
"And what does that mean?"
"It could be Leukemia......I'm sorry to tell you this over the phone but we need you to get up to the childrens hospital before it closes as it's Friday afternoon."

Heather's mind went into a panic. She started to cry. She couldn't remember how to get in touch with Theron but somehow she managed to.  She took Tyler (3) and Trey (5) to the hospital with her right away.

Walking on to the Childrens Cancer floor took her breath away. She started to tear up but continued on. They assured her nothing was confirmed yet and they needed more blood work. The blood was sent to the lab and only 10 grueling, horrible, stess filled minutes later the doctor walked in and said "The blood tests came back and confirmed Trey had Leukemia" and he would be admitted to the hospital.  More tests were going to be run soon beacuse they needed to determine the type of Leukemia he had. They informed the family that Acute Leukocytic Leukemia (A.L.L) was the most common cancer in children and they believed that this was the type Trey had. Luckily, ALL has a good prognosis.

Saturday morning more blood work was taken to monitor his blood count levels. They gave him fluids but Trey started to feel badly very quickly. He was complaining of weakness, wanting to be carried around, was requesting to lay in bed and sleep more.

They found his hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were dropping and they said he might need a blood transfusion if his levels continued to drop further. The began steroids (which is considered a type of chemotherapy for children) immediately.

Sunday morning Trey had a port inserted, his first spinal tap (where they remove spinal fluid to test for leukemia cells), inserted chemo into the spinal canal directly and had a bone marrow biopsy completed. Later Sunday afternoon they confirmed Trey had A.L.L. The treatment plan was discussed at this point:
-Stay inpatient at hospital for the first week
-Weekly chemotherapy vistis at the childrens cancer center for six months which would consist of pills, IV chemo and interthecal (removal of spinal fluid and addition of chemo directly inserted into spinal canal- important to maintain fluid balance)
-Three years of monthly chemotherapy visits (maintence phase).

The last day of the inital inpatient stay after the ALL diagnosis Trey's blood levels dropped and he required a blood transfusion. At this point it was stressed that he be in a clean environment, could no longer attend preschool for the remainer of the year, and kindergarten would be questionable. He was now considered immunocompromised.

After the third week ( around May 16th the third round of chemo)  of treatment Trey had a horrible reaction to the steroids:

Every part of Treys body swelled up. Even something as simple as urinating became an issue. This poor baby and his family have been through so much. Some how Trey continues to smile and has a positive attitude through out it all.

Today, June 17, 2016 Heather has had to quit her job, she cares for her three children, attends to Treys cancer needs (doctor apointments, chemotherapy schedule, meds at home) and cares for her finacee's mother who also has medical needs. She also helps to care for her niece who lives with her.

They have been struggling to deal with an ENORMOUS insurance issue,  and they post-poned their wedding (which was supposed to happen June 11, 2016) and used the saved funds for these unforseen expenses. This family could use some help and as a best friend/family of Tina (Walker) Bratt and a life-long friend/family of Sheri (Walker) Hill of 32 years we are asking you to consider donating to such a deserving family that has been dealt a tough hand. There are a number of ways to help:

1) Prayers are always welcomed first and foremost!
2) Donating to this Gofundme page
3) Send a card to :

4) Attend a benefit in Trey's honor

(Any donations gladly accepted: please send an email to this page with  TREY'S BENEFIT in the subject line)
More details on specifics to follow in updates.

Any money raised will help take the financial buden off of this family. Theron has had to miss days from work because Heather couldn't lift and carry Trey to his chemo appointments due to the extreme edema (swelling) from the steriods (which is better today but has not yet completely resolved). They will use the money raised for their mortgage, pay medical bills that arise, and any other unforeseen bills that arise. This money would compensate for Heather's loss of income and the missed days Theron has needed to miss to be there for their son. It can help relieve their anxiety in one area of their life.

Updates will come soon........
