Struck By a Hit and Run Driver

At 5 in the morning, my mother's partner was struck by a SUV while riding his bicycle to work. He was in the bike lane, had several pieces of reflective gear on his bike and he was riding safely and legally.

When the SUV struck him, he flew several feet in the air with his bike, crashing after the impact of the fast moving vehicle. 

Instead of stopping or even calling the police to see if he was ok, the SUV sped off. 

Now, Shawn is traumatized, horribly wounded in the hospital, and now freshly in debt.

Shawn is legally blind and works for the Austin Lighthouse for the Blind. Now that he has been badly injured, it is unknown when he will be able to work again. Or where.

You all probably know the crippling debt hospital bills can get you in. My mom and Shawn are now facing this debt while also worrying about three children, college tuition, taxes and just putting food on the table.

The money will go straight to his hospital bills. Shawn suffered several broken bones and a badly severed leg when he was thrown off the road by the hit and run. It's going to take a long time for Shawn and our family to recover.
