Help Heal Milo's Heart

$9,370 of $9,000 goal

Raised by 149 people in 11 months
Milo has been diagnosed with an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), commonly known as a heart murmur, in the wall between the top two chambers of his heart. While not an emergency, the hole will not close on its own, and if undealt with, the long-term effects would be serious, even potentially life-threatening.

The November 2nd, 2017 catheterization procedure was unsuccessful (ok yes, we are bummed), but onward.

Milo is scheduled for surgery November 22, 2017 at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto. He will be in the hospital approximately five days, then home recovering (i.e. no school) for about six weeks. We hope and plan that he'll return after the winter break. Come on 2018!

During Milo's recovery we certainly will be reaching out to everyone who offered us food, or babysitting, or a shoulder to cry on, and taking advantage of all those offers.  A couple things are for sure: We're feeling overwhelmingly lucky and blessed to have the most amazing friends and family.  Another is we live in the right place for this surgery and Milo will most likely be just fine - even better, if such a thing can be possible - once this is all over.

We've increased our goal for this campaign slightly to account for the surgery, but not much, because we're hitting that out-of-pocket maximum this year, baby!

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for whatever help you are able and willing to give us.  We love you!

Hi all!

My most sincere thank you to everyone for seeing our family through a really rough time. It seems only right to give you a (hopefully) final update on Milo and his heart murmur.

The surgery went smoothly - Lucile Packard hospital and staff were amazing. They patched Milo's heart up without incident. He was out of the ICU in 12 hours and we only spent one more night in the hospital before they sent us packing.

Since he was released he is doing so well! His recovery has been faster and smoother than I dared to hope. He went back to school much sooner than expected, a relief for all of us - he was tired of having his activities restricted at home and he missed his peers!

He had a follow-up echo cardiogram yesterday - I wasn't able to attend, but I got the following update from Josh after - "Milo absolutely killed it, is doing *great*, and left a trail of broken hearts throughout the hospital " in conclusion, he's the same fabulous guy, now with extra amazingness, and thanks in no small part to every one of you who helped us with money, your time, your kind words, gifts for Milo, your love and friendship. Whenever I get down on humanity I'm going to think about all of you.

Thank you all, for everything. We love you!

Robin, (&Josh, & Milo)!
Happy Holidays to you all!

Hi everyone!

It's been a long freakin' day, but Milo is doing amazing. They've removed the breathing tube and he's breathing on his own. I also just had the pleasure of listening to the doctors discuss amongst themselves how good he looks/is doing, and they ought to know!

Best news of all is the hole in Milo's heart is fixed. No more ASD, no more heart working extra hard to do its job. We'll be at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital for another 5-7 days, then back home where we're told our rambunctious boy will be even more raring to go than before!

Thank you all for being such wonderful, supportive caring friends to our family! Tomorrow's going to be the most timely Thanksgving ever!

All our love,

Milo, Robin & Josh

P.s. originally when I wrote this update every single sentence ended in an exclamation point. I managed to dial it back somewhat, but that should give you an idea of how happy, relieved and grateful we are.

Hi everyone!

Milo's catheterization procedure was yesterday and as those of you who follow me on Facebook know, it was not sucessful.

The good news is, Milo is a champ. He is doing great and continues to amaze us every day. He will be just fine!

The hole in Milo's heart still needs to be fixed, and that means open heart surgery. We'd like to do it this year for money/insurance reasons, but also to just get it over with so we can all get on with our lives! We hope to speak with the surgical team early next week regarding next steps.

We'll update everyone when we know more. In the meantime, thank you all for being such wonderful, supportive caring friends to our family!

All our love,

Milo, Robin & Josh
