Help Lisa’s Eyes Heal

EYE DISEASE doesn’t seem to get the same respect or understanding as kidney, liver, heart or other diseases. While eye disease may not always be life threatening, IT IS very much life altering…Hi! My name is Lisa Pike. In February 2017, I was diagnosed with 5-five eye diseases; Epithelial Basement Membrane Dystrophy or EBMD  (also known as Map Dot Fingerprint Dystrophy), which basically means I’m missing a protein that connects the cells of the epithelial layer protecting my cornea. I also have Recurrent Corneal Erosion Syndrome or RCES, which is a break/tear in the Corneal tissue exposing very sensitive nerves and causing very severe pain and light sensitivity. I have Severe Dry Eye with Blepharitis (Sjögren’s Syndrome ), and Corneal Edema. My symptoms are on the severe end for each condition and each condition exacerbate each other and wreak havoc on my daily living and ability to function.

WHY I NEED YOUR HELP:
Trust me when I say that creating this GoFundMe and putting all my business out there for the world to read has taken every bit of humility I can muster up right now. I have exhausted ALL public and private resources and I’m desperate for help. I’ve been on medical leave since April 13th due to having back to back Erosions. I used the majority of my sick time before April due to medical related absences so I haven’t had a paycheck since April 19, 2018. In the meantime, the third party handler for my Short Term Disability mishandled my paperwork and my claim was denied. I am appealing that denial, the time it takes for an appeal to be processed is longer than the time I have to get the much needed funds together

Increasing medical expenses and currently not having any income, I’m behind on ALL of my bills and I don’t have any credit cards. My rent is the most urgent. The apartment manager has been working with me but will have to file an eviction notice if I don’t come up with $2,000.00 immediately and with the additional July rent soon coming due, this situation has become extremely urgent.

I started blood serum tears which  have helped ease the dryness.  My doctor thinks I may be able to return to work this week with modifications and as long as the serum tears continue working. I still need to have Corneal Debridement  surgery on both eyes. My insurance won’t pay any part of the blood serum tears needed so that I can return to work, and the cost ($200) every 6-weeks is all out of pocket. I will also have the co-pay deductible cost of the eye surgeries which will be approximately $750 for both eyes

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
I’ve been a single mom since 2010 until my youngest daughter graduated high school in May 2016 and moved out August 2016. Although I keep her on my health insurance, I’m now an empty nester. My family is not currently in a financial position to help. My sister has offered me a place to stay with her in Colorado but that would mean I’d have to quit my job, lose my insurance benefits, forgo the surgeries and risk my eyes getting worse.

I have to believe there is beauty somewhere in all of this. I am blessed with wonderful kids and two incredible grandsons. I love my job and want to succeed in my position. Please consider carefully about helping me stay in my apartment home so I can heal without the stress and worry of being displaced and I can return to work successfully. I greatly appreciate any amount and I especially appreciate your prayers...THANK YOU!!
