Help Kerri Help Henry

Donation protected
UPDATE: We can't even put into words how grateful we are and how much this will help in this process. We plan to continue to accept donations that will all go directly to Henry's mounting medical bills and potential changes in his and Kerri's insurance plan. Thank you so much for those who have already donated. Please continue to send love and prayers for Henry, Kerri, and the rest of the family and medical staff that are involved in this process. Again, we can not even begin to express how blessed we are to have to have friends and family that are so supportive in our time of need. We hope to be able to pay forward these acts of kindness in the future. We will continue to add updates to this page.

ORIGINAL POST:
Henry Holden Kochelek has been a gift to many people's lives over his 13 years. Born with hydrocephalus (water on the brain), Henry has relied upon many things in his life most young boys never need: from catheters and shunts (to keep fluid off his brain) to anticonvulsants (to prevent seizures). Perhaps, more than any of these mechanical and pharmaceutical crutches, the most fundamental asset to Henry's wellbeing has been his mother, Kerri.

Late Saturday night (2/23/19), Henry's father, Josh, rushed him to the hospital as soon as signs of increased pressure on his brain became evident. It was later discovered that one of Henry's shunts had failed, and while he was transitioned to a pediatric surgeon, Henry suffered multiple strokes. This left him with brain injuries and a long path to recovery and rehabilitation at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC.

During this process, Kerri has decided to put everything on hold to be by Henry’s side, including her pharmacy residency and professional career. Unfortunately, this puts her in a position where she is over 7 hours from home, somewhat isolated from the support systems she has relied upon while she was care-taking in the Appalachian area.

Let’s help Kerri help Henry. Many of the expenses that come with a child being hospitalized long-term are not directly related to their medical care. A small donation to Kerri could be her next meal, a night at a hotel, travel expenses, etc. This process may take months and it would be one less weight on Kerri’s back to have a small financial cushion to fall back upon when she needs it.
