Creating A Village for our KIDS!

Tax deductible
The William A. Hunton YMCA was established in 1875 during a time in which minorty populations were denied access to mainstream organizations.  From our first day in operation until now we have not denied anyone access to our programs and services because of their income level, race, religion, age, etc, etc.,.
We are the oldest independent YMCA in continuious operation and the second oldest YMCA in the country.
The William A. Hunton YMCA  has a legacy of providing child care, educational programs, life skills, health and wellness training, substance abuse prevention, and recreational programs to families spanning generations to include children, parents, grand-parents and even great grand parents.
We continuously address the needs of disadvantaged and underserved youth, adults and senior citizens.  We work with those who oftentimes are denied access and services by other organizations simply because they cannot afford to "pay" for them.
While we struggle to remain independent and in continuous operation, our vision is STILL to have the William A. Hunton YMCA be that safe haven for under-privileged youth, adults and senior citizens living in volatile environments. Even though we are a historical part of South Hampton Roads community and the YMCA's global movement - we are financially challenged.
WHY A "GO FUND ME" ACCOUNT?
The activity busses we use to transport our youth and seniors are old and need to be replaced. The cost..over $75,000 plus taxes, title and required insurances.
Daily maintence and program supplies such as paper products, bathroom and janitorial supplies, disinfectant and cleaning supplies, office supplies, expendible supplies for our youth and senior programs, maintenance of equipment and replacement of expendible recreational supplies, supplies for our childcare program, playground maintenance etc, etc exceed $5,000 each month.
Overhead expences such as utility bills, liability insurances, employer portions of stateand federal tax liabilities, professional dues, and state mandated trainings exceed $200,000 per year.
The list goes on and on.......
Grants ONLY cover a portion those program expenses DIRECTLY RELATED to the program for which the grant was written. All other related expenses must be covered by the organization.
We are not a fancy multi-million dollar swim and gym facility with "members" who can afford to pay hundreds of dollars to come to our facility or participate in our programs.
We are a small PROGRAM BASED YMCA that works with kids to help them achieve their greatest potential, provides services to seniors so that they do not become isolated and homebound, partners with other community based organizations to help individuals from low-income households acquire those skills that will enable them to secure employment and become self sufficient.
We are the "they" that helps "those people" when no other organization will. We are the SAFE PLACE where kids can just be KIDS!
We are the place many successful individuals "use to go to" BEFORE they could afford to go where they are going NOW.
We are the "memory" so many have "forgotten".
PLEASE help us continue to help others.
If you are unable to make a personal donation PLEASE ask a family member, a local business, your employer, your church, your social club, ANYONE you think may help us.
All donations are tax-deductible and we will provide a thank-you letter to each person who provides a mailing or email address.
